WWE Raw Results: Top 15 Moments from Last Night's Show
I liked WWE Raw last night. It was the weakest in quite a while, but it was a solid two hours. I think a few factors were working against it from the beginning, but everybody gave it their best effort.
The Elimination Chamber received some attention. This week's Smackdown got a little bit of hype. Even next week's Raw was teased. All in all, I would give this week's Red Brand a B- grade.
15. John Cena Announcement
1 of 15I don't watch much of NASCAR. I have next to no interest in seeing Carl Edwards racing.
However, this was a nice segment. It gave John Cena a little segment, as well as major publicity for WWE. I may not be a fan of NASCAR, but you can't deny its popularity.
Cena being involved with the Daytona 500 in any way (big or small) is a big deal. It was a short, yet effective promo from both men.
14. Sheamus Wins Again
2 of 15David Otunga was in the ring showing his support for Johnny Ace.
He tried to "Tebow," but that did not last very long. Triple H made a match on the spot between Otunga and Sheamus!
This was nicely done. It gave a nice nod to the "Triple H/Sheamus connection," as well as give the Celtic Warrior another easy win. I say this every week, but Sheamus just needs to keep on winning. Long matches or short matches, there is no reason for him to lose for the next two months!
13. Smackdown Commercial
3 of 15This gets a small mention.
The Blue Brand got some good hype here promoting this week's main event. It will be Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton for the first time ever (I think?). It will surely be an entertaining match.
I like WWE doing this each week. It doesn't have to be major attention, but shining some light on Smackdown every Raw is always going to get a thumbs up from me!
12. Rock/Cena Videos
4 of 15First, I want to discuss the John Cena video.
We have seen it before, but I love it! If I ran the company, that video would air before every WWE television show. Seriously!
Fans have no idea how important Cena is to the entire industry right now. The fact that this video was so well-produced just furthers the point. I have said it many times, but you need to appreciate what you have now. One day, Cena will be gone, and everybody will see just how special he was.
You don't know what you have until it's gone.
As for The Rock, his appearance on Jay Leno was fun. Raw showed a small teaser, and I liked that. He spent a lot of time talking about WWE, so it was a job well done!
Their Twitter remarks were fine. I don't follow any wrestlers on Twitter, but as long as they stay focused on the actual topic (and not pointless offensive jokes), I will approve of their social media "feud."
11. Big Show vs. Daniel Bryan
5 of 15Just like Smackdown, I enjoyed the AJ segments.
Everything else was just "there." Both men have wrestled one too many times. It is just like Randy Orton vs. Wade Barrett. Their matches are fun, but it is time to move on!
The match ended without a definite winner, and you still have to wonder if AJ is in on all of this or not.
10. Divas Match
6 of 15Tamina looks to be next in line for Beth Phoenix's title. That is fine. Everything is on hold until Kharma vs. Phoenix begin their feud for Mania. I have proclaimed for months that match will happen in Miami on April 1st, 2012, and I see nothing stopping it now.
In the end, the "face" team won. Alicia Fox, Tamina, Kelly Kelly and Eve all got a victory to their names!
Last night, all the divas worked hard. However, most of the concern was on Eve Torres. I noticed her immediately after she left the ring. Legitimate or not, she looked to be in pain.
Good thing my "it" girl, Alicia Fox, was there to make sure she was okay.
It will be interesting to see how many fans "attack" Beth Phoenix for injuring Eve here. A lot of folks seemed to point blame on Alicia Fox for injuring Beth a few weeks back. Surely, the same can be said about Beth here, no? No? Just Fox's fault, but no blame for Beth?
Sorry folks, you have to be consistent.
9. Shawn Michaels Returning
7 of 15Shawn Michaels will be on Raw next week. I am sure he will be discussing the Triple H and Undertaker situation just like last year. It is sure to be a great segment, as he always delivers!
Get ready, folks! The "fantasy booking" around HBK for the next week is going to be off the charts.
8. Triple H Promo
8 of 15I am a big fan of Undertaker.
I am a big fan of Triple H.
I have been all for them having another match this year, and I still am! Nothing fits more than these two legends going at it one more time.
However, this promo by The Game was not his best work. He all but killed the crowd 20 minutes into the show. From that point on, the live audience was trying to swim upstream. It just wasn't going to happen, no matter how hard you tried.
With that being said, I loved the video packages! Loved them! The story behind the promo was excellent. Portraying Taker as the "underdog" is going to be brilliant. Having promos back and forth for a few weeks is only going to build the anticipation of the match being "officially" announced.
Anybody expecting Undertaker to be on WWE TV every week needs to come back to "reality." That is not going to happen, just as Triple H doesn't need to be on every week. Drag this story out another month, and it will be huge.
Add in an HBK appearance next week, and we are on the right path...
7. Johnny Ace Tease
9 of 15I thought this was an excellent idea. Drive traffic to the website, and find out the latest on Johnny Ace! Yes, the news will eventually make its way around the Internet.
However, the original source goes to WWE.
Whether he is going to stick around or not, it will be an interesting couple of weeks going forward.
6. Kane and Eve
10 of 15This was a good tease for next week's Raw. Kane threatened Eve once again, and you have to assume John Cena will be very intense next week!
I liked the fact that nothing major was done last night in their feud. It just simply was not needed. In less than two weeks, these two will go their separate ways.
Cena will beat Kane at Elimination Chamber. Then he will focus on Rocky. Kane will lose and move into a feud with Zack Ryder? I don't know. Either way, this feud is finished.
Have Cena come out next week and vow to get revenge on Kane at the PPV event. Brawl on the show and end the feud in an Ambulance match. Makes sense to me!
Cena stands tall, while Kane ends up in the hospital, just like Ryder. Ironic twist of fate there!
5. Khali Pins Rhodes
11 of 15I love the video. If anybody wants to hear The Great Khali on commentary, I highly suggest watching the above link.
As for Raw, this was a nice tag-team match. Randy Orton and Khali vs. Cody Rhodes and Wade Barrett was a fine addition to Raw.
Each wrestler showed that it truly will be "every man for himself" at the PPV event, and it will be an intense situation in Milwaukee. In the end, Khali pinned Cody Rhodes clean in the middle of the ring to pick up the victory.
Yes, Khali won! Bring all the negativity you want! It doesn't matter. Khali was perfectly acceptable here, and the finish was well done.
Afterward, Orton was the man who stood tall as he delivered a nice RKO to Khali! Good segment here.
4. Elimination Chamber?
12 of 15The Elimination Chamber PPV event is less than two weeks away. What matches do we have?
Well, WWE has announced two huge title matches and a final Cena vs. Kane battle. I am very curious to see what else will fill out this "card."
Does Sheamus get a match? Tamina vs. Beth Phoenix? Brodus Clay in a short match? It is very intriguing to wonder what will be presented live in Milwaukee on February 21, 2012.
Again, I will be live at the show! If anybody has any clever sign/poster ideas, just let me know...
3. Jericho Speaks
13 of 15Yes, he said a few words two weeks ago. Yes, we have heard his voice many times in the past. However, this was the promo we have been waiting weeks for!
Chris Jericho finally told us all why he is back. He finally let the world know what his plans are. He spoke the truth, and his feud with CM Punk is just heating up.
The beauty of this entire thing was Punk turned the tables and "trolled" Jericho here. It was a brilliant move and made me want to see their match even more. We are still two months away from Mania!
For those that still don't "get it," it doesn't matter. You will watch Raw next week, and the following week, and the following week, and so on and so forth.
For those that have "got it" from the beginning, this was a major step forward to Wrestle Mani XXVIII!
2. Safety Comes First!
14 of 15Legitimate or not.
Concussion or not.
Story line or not.
I don't care. WWE made the right decision to take R-Truth out of the main event. His landing looked beyond painful, and I hope he is fine.
Just like Ricardo taking time off after his TLC "bump!" It doesn't matter if it was a story or not. The move was way too dangerous and wasn't needed.
As for Truth, I hope it was just a part of the story because that just looked brutal.
1. Main Event Match
15 of 15I liked this concept. It was a six-pack challenge between the Raw Chamber participants where the winner would get the final entry at the PPV event.
The rules were simple. The stipulation was easy to understand. Best of all, the outcome was extremely predictable. I say that as a compliment!
Sometimes, the best choice is the most obvious. Jericho winning here was the right move. No need to have anybody else win this match...
Chris Jericho won the match and posed with Punk's WWE Championship. Very nice ending to an average Raw! Hopefully, next week's Raw with HBK is better than this week's show.
