While much of the Arsenal transfer news has focused on finding another capable striker in the event that Robin Van Persie leaves the club, it appears that Arsenal is looking to boost their midfield as well.

The Daily Mail is reporting that Benfica midfield star Javi Garcia is on the Gunners' summer transfer radar and The Times is reporting that Arsenal has made a formal inquiry.

The response was that there was interest from Manchester United, however there was no current deal in place. The expected fee for Garcia could be around £27 million, already making this deal look skeptical at best. A more likely target is Racing Club captain Claudio Yacob.

However, it does make sense that Arsenal try to add talent and depth to their midfield. Losing Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri hurt and with all respect to Mikel Arteta, he simply does not fill the void there. Transfer Yossi Benayoun is not the answer to the midfield depth question either.

Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere are the long-term solutions for Arsenal on the pitch, however, Wilshere's recent injury setback makes depth all the more important as injuries always seem to find Arsenal in recent times.
