Lionel Messi, the reigning FIFA Ballon d'Or winner, is the greatest footballer on the planet.

At 24 years of age, he has scored 234 goals and provided 110 assists in 370 career games.

This season, he has directly and indirectly contributed to 53 goals in 35 games for Barcelona.

Let's enjoy Messi's top eight Barcelona goals of the 2011-12 season.

Barcelona 5-0 Atlético Madrid (24 September 2011)

Prior to the throw-in, Barcelona had strung 48 consecutive passes over two minutes.

Barcelona 4-0 Rayo Vallecano (29 November 2011)

Javi Fuego is taller, bigger and heavier than Lionel Messi.

Keep in mind, Fuego averages 4.8 tackles and a mind-boggling 7.6 interceptions per game, so Messi was up against one of the best tacklers in Europe.

Nevertheless, he bypassed Fuego as though the match-up was a professional vs. a schoolboy.

Málaga 1-4 Barcelona (22 January 2012)

Éric Abidal intercepted Jesús Gámez's botched pass, which fortuitously fell to Isco. However, the teenager was indecisive and turned over the ball.

Those two plays led to Lionel Messi embarrassing Martín Demichelis and Joris Mathijsen.

Santos 0-4 Barcelona (18 December 2011)

For a moment, Durval thought he was watching football in the living room, because he forgot about marking Lionel Messi.

What a splendid bit of skill from Xavi to provide the incisive pass.

Barcelona 8-0 Osasuna (17 September 2011)

Lionel Messi scored a hat trick and provided two assists that day.

Barcelona 5-0 Atlético Madrid (24 September 2011)

Seven minutes before the goal, Luis Perea had pulled down Lionel Messi after the Argentine attempted another imitation of Diego Maradona's goal of the century.

Falcao's facial expression after the goal was classic.

Barcelona 3-2 Real Madrid (17 August 2011)

Cristiano Ronaldo on his knees watching Lionel Messi jog away in celebration is symbolic of the Argentine's superiority.

Real Madrid 2-2 Barcelona (14 August 2011)

Ray Hudson sure loved the goal.

Every time I listen to him, he sounds just like Mario Rosenstock impersonating Wayne Rooney on Special 1 TV.
