NBA Trade Rumors: Why the New York Knicks Are the Best Fit for Steve Nash
Steve Nash is like a volcanic island: the only thing on a rapidly sinking Phoenix Suns team that is peeking above water. He needs to finish his career somewhere else, in a place where he is the missing piece to an NBA title, and that place is New York.
Nash is an exceptional point guard, the kind of floor general who will instantly make his new team better. His shooting, precision passing and floor vision are unparalleled in the NBA. He is the thinking, breathing engine that Mike D'Antoni needs to run his offensive system and return the New York Knicks to the NBA finals.
In fact, Nash was D'Antoni's point guard during his glory years in Phoenix and Amar'e Stoudemire was his power forward, so all Knicks executives need to do to understand his potential impact is watch Suns highlight videos from 2005-09.
If one looks at the New York Knicks roster, what do they see? A headless hydra. The Knicks have all the talent in the world: two superstars in Carmelo Anthony and Stoudemire, a star defensive center in Tyson Chandler and several talented young players including Tony Douglas and Iman Shumpert.
However, they lack leadership in the locker room and a floor general who can work from the top of the key, spread out Anthony and Stoudemire and get them both involved in a flowing offense.
What the Knicks need is a leader, a player who can both inspire his teammates to act as a selfless unit and orchestrate the type of passing offense that can facilitate both Anthony and Stoudemire.
That player is Steve Nash.
So, how can the New York Knicks get Nash into Madison Square Garden? It's tricky, but if they wait until March 1st, the Knicks brass can send Toney Douglas, Iman Shumpert, picks and cash to facilitate a deal.
Shumpert is particularly promising, but since New York's executives know they can convince Nash to re-sign, it's worth giving up some talent to get him. Nash would be the perfect addition for the Knicks and they know it.
