UFC on FOX 2 Results from Evans-Davis: Jon Jones Bombs as an On-Set Analyst
Jon Jones may very well be the best pound-for-pound mixed martial artist in the world today, but the UFC light heavyweight champion's skills in the cage did not exactly transition into a particularly impressive night in front of the camera on FOX.ย
Jones served as an analyst alongside UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture and FOX's Curt Menefee for the event on Saturday night featuring the main event between Phil Davis and Jones' formerย trainingย partner Rashad Evans. Certainly the 24-year-old champion was part of the broadcast mostly to hype the eventual bout between himself andย Evans, but he failed pretty miserably at doing just about everything else.

Look, I'm not trying to say he's not a good person, a great fighter or even an intelligent analyst. All that I'm saying is that the guy looked like a fish out of water on the set.ย
Not that many of us would do any better, but Jones wasย awkwardย from the very beginning and looked away from both the cameras and his fellow analysts when answering. His nervous, shy attitude doesn't exactly go along with what we normally have seen from him in post-fight press conferences or various interviews, so maybe the bright lights of network television got to him.
It wasn't a complete disaster as he didย talk a bit of smack and hype the fight against Evans, which is tentatively scheduledย for UFC 145 in April, but it certainly wasn't a big success, either. Let's just say that the UFC hasn't found its next great commentator.ย
If you're the UFC and FOX, you live and learn with this type of experience from Jones, but for now, it might be wise to just let him focus on fighting.ย
