Michigan Football Recruiting: Latest News on Joshua Garnett and Armani Reeves
It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine right about now. They are fresh off a BCS bowl victory, have a talented team returning and have a fantastic recruiting class coming in. Although this year's class is loaded with talent, there are still a few players out there that Brady Hoke and company would like to snag.
Two of those top players that remain on Michigan's radar include cornerback Armani Reeves and offensive lineman Joshua Garnett. Both are 4-star or higher players (depending on what recruiting site you're looking at) and will make an immediate impact on a team. Particularly if Garnett commits, Michigan will likely have one of the best offensive lines in the country.
With National Signing Day rapidly approaching, these players are preparing to make a decision that will change the rest of their lives. Here's the latest on the two top recruits.
OG Joshua Garnett
1 of 3Garnett is a 6'5", 275-pound beast and will really help shape any offensive line that he is added to. He has a very high football IQ, is extremely quick off the ball and is one of the best blockers this recruiting class has to offer. He had offers from nearly every top school in the country but has narrowed his list down to just two.
Those two schools are Michigan and Stanford, and he's expected to make his decision in the afternoon of January 26. The Wolverines were the first to receive a visit from Garnett, which has to be good for something, and Stanford is a school he just recently came back from.
On Thursday, one of these programs will receive a huge gift.
CB Armani Reeves
2 of 3Armani Reeves had offers from nearly every top school and has cut his list down to just Michigan and Ohio State. One team will be blessed with one of the top cornerbacks committing to their program, and the other team will envy that he went to their rival.
Here are a few things he has said about both programs:
"Ohio State has the exact major I want, Reeves said. And the coaches are top notch.
Michigan is a great school. Plus playing for [Greg] Mattison would be a treat, he knows what it takes to be successful.
"
A date hasn't been mentioned on when he will make his decision, but many expect him to make his decision as early as January 28.
Predictions?
3 of 3Nearly everybody believes Garnett will end up picking Stanford. I also think he'll end up in a Cardinal uniform, but he has a better opportunity to do better things at Michigan. The Wolverines have recruited extremely heavy on the offensive line this year, and with the top guard added to it, they could develop something very special if he were to hop on board.
As far as Reeves is concerned, I think he's the one that Michigan lands for sure. Once again, another chance to do something special, as Michigan has recruited well at the safety position, and they've already received a commitment from another top corner in Terry Richardson. I never bet against Urban Meyer and his abilities, but Michigan is too good of a program not to land either of these players.
