Ohio State Football Recruiting: Urban Meyer Lands Top 2013 CB Cameron Burrows

Danny FlynnJun 7, 2018

Although he’s only been in Columbus for little over a month, new head coach Urban Meyer’s master recruiting tactics have already been paying huge dividends for Ohio State. Meyer has managed to assemble one of the top recruiting classes in the country this year.

The Buckeyes currently have 22 commitments for the 2012 class, including pledges from some of the top-rated recruits in the country. These include DE Noah Spence (Bishop McDevitt HS, Pennsylvania), DE Adolphus Washington (Taft HS, Ohio), DT Tommy Schutt (Glenbard West HS, Illinois) and RB Warren Ball (St. Francis DeSales HS, Ohio).

As if that wasn’t enough, Meyer’s already getting a head start on Ohio State’s 2013 class.

Yesterday, the coach picked up a huge commitment from five-star cornerback prospect Cameron Burrows, who plays for Trotwood-Madison high school in Ohio.

Burrows is already considered one of the top defensive prospects in the country for 2013, and many feel that he’ll be the top-rated recruit in the state of Ohio next season.

The 6'1", 195-pound high school junior had offers from tons of power programs such as Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame, Stanford and Wisconsin, but Meyer’s persuasive recruiting powers were obviously just too much to say no to.

"Urban is a great man and a great coach. He's the best coach in the nation," Burrows told Rivals.com.

These were the kind of recruiting results that Ohio State fans started dreaming about when Meyer was announced as the team’s new coach back in late November. However, I’m not sure anyone could have predicted that he would be having so much success on the recruiting trail so quickly. That is, especially after the Buckeyes were hit with a postseason bowl ban for 2012 and additional NCAA sanctions just a few weeks ago.

With all of the talent that he’s bringing in to a program that was already well-stocked with potential future stars, Meyer is sending a message to the Big Ten and the rest of the college football world. The Buckeyes are on their way back, and last season’s 6-7 record will soon simply be looked at as an aberration.

With another five-star 2013 recruit from Ohio in Jalin Marshall set to announce his decision on Jan. 31 (Ohio State is one of his finalists), Buckeyes fans could have plenty to celebrate before they even get to National Signing Day.

With a potential top-five recruiting class heading to Columbus this year, and with top-notch junior recruits already giving their word to Meyer a year in advance, Ohio State looks like it’s going to be a recruiting force to be reckoned with over the next few years.
