Mayweather vs. Pacquiao Video: Floyd Says No to Proposed 50/50 Split

Luis BatlleJan 20, 2012

The talks of a Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao fight have surrounded the sport of boxing, and inevitably continue to do so.

Yet now, it has been as close as ever before to becoming a sure-fire match.

According to the Telegraph, Mayweather has gone to the extent of reaching out personally to Pacquiao, having booked a May 5 date in a Las Vegas arena. ESPN has also made the report that two have gotten into personal contact, yet also add that they were in contact through both e-mail and telephone.

Pacquiao's promoter wants a late-May date. BoxRec has a Mayweather fight set at MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 5.

It is clear that both Mayweather and Pacquiao are set on making this match happen soon enough. Yet when it comes to splitting the money between the two, the two sides are in sheer disagreement.

This is not only expected to be a promising boxing match for fans, but also one of the higher-grossing fights in boxing history. For Mayweather to be in disagreement with a 50/50, Pacquiao-proposed split is outright absurd.

Evidently, the undefeated Mayweather is convinced he should be making the majority of the money in this fight, and wrongfully so. The two top-notch fighters have both earned their way to the top of the sport and will both be bringing in fans from all over the world.

The act of not accepting a 50/50 split is an act of arrogance that undoubtedly has Pacquiao turning the other cheek.

In what is a must-watch event for all fans of the sport, Mayweather-Pacquiao has the making to be one of the better, more intriguing fights in boxing history.

Just how epic would this matchup be?

Mayweather comes into this matchup undefeated at 42-0 and fresh off wins over Juan Manuel Marquez, Shane Mosley and Victor Ortiz. Meanwhile, Pacquiao is an impressive 54-3 and is fresh off wins over both Mosley and Marquez.

If the Mayweather side can come to its senses, boxing fans could be witness one of the greater fights in the sport's history come May.
