College Football Recruiting 2012: The Top 5 Upcoming Recruiting Visits
With just a few more weeks left until National Signing Day, the college football recruiting talk is really beginning to heat up as schools continue to battle it out for the nation's top high school prospects.
As we head into the homestretch, more and more commitments are starting to pile up, but as we've seen in years past, anything can happen on National Signing Day, and there's still nothing set in stone as of yet.
With two weekends left before the big day, many of the nation's top players, whether uncommitted or not, will be taking a few final visits to get a last-minute feel for some of the top schools in the country.
Here's a look at five key players who will be taking official visits in the coming weeks.
WR Dorial Green-Beckham: Arkansas
1 of 5WR Dorial Green-Beckham is one of the biggest stars of the 2012 recruiting class, however, he's also one of its biggest enigmas, as he has yet to reveal any hints as to where he'll ultimately end up.
Every school in America would love to have the 6'6'', 220-pound phenom, but Green-Beckham has indicated that he's narrowed his choices down to Alabama, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.
D.G.B. will reportedly be paying a visit to Fayetteville this weekend, which means coach Bobby Petrino will have the personal chance to let the star receiver know all about how he could flourish in the Razorbacks' system, and how he'll have the chance to get some immediate playing time, since Joe Adams, Jarius Wright and Greg Childs are all heading off to the NFL.
DE Mario Edwards: LSU
2 of 5A 5-star defensive end recruit, Mario Edwards announced his commitment to Florida State at the Under Armour All-America Game a few weeks ago, but that won't stop Edwards from taking one final visit to Baton Rouge on Jan. 20 to get a good feel for LSU.
Edwards sounds firm in his commitment to the Seminoles, but Les Miles can be an awfully persuasive recruiter, and with 2012 likely being the last season for both Sam Montgomery and Barkevious Mingo, Miles will surely let Edwards know that there will be a lot of room for him to shine on the Tigers defensive line in the coming years.
DE Darius Hamilton: Rutgers and Miami
3 of 5This weekend, Rutgers will be hosting three of the top recruits from the state of New Jersey—DE Darius Hamilton (Don Bosco), CB Yuri Wright (Don Bosco) and ATH Devin Fuller (Old Tappan).
The Scarlet Knights would love to get their hands on any of those three highly touted recruits, but Hamilton, one of the top-rated defensive prospects in the country, is the true gem.
Hamilton has Rutgers listed among his final four schools, a list which also includes California, Florida and Miami. But unfortunately for Greg Schiano, he won't get the last crack at the star defensive lineman, as Hamilton is set to visit Al Golden and the Hurricanes on Jan. 27.
DE Aziz Shittu: USC
4 of 5This will be a big weekend for Lane Kiffin and USC on the recruiting front, as the Trojans will host a bunch of top recruits such as OT Kyle Murphy (San Clemente HS, California), DE Leonard Williams (Mainland HS, Florida), C Hiva Lutui (Trinity HS, Texas), OT Zach Banner (Lakes HS, Washington) and current commit TE Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick (Whitney HS, California).
One of the most important names that will be coming to Los Angeles, though, is Aziz Shittu (Buhach HS, California), one of the top-rated defensive ends in the country.
Shittu is the type of player who can make an immediate impact for the Trojans defense, which lost star DE Nick Perry a year early to the NFL draft.
Because of NCAA scholarship restrictions, Kiffin doesn't have much room left for very many recruits in the 2012 class, but he would definitely love to reel in a recruit the caliber of Shittu.
RB Trey Williams: Arkansas and Oklahoma State
5 of 5Trey Williams, one of the top running recruits in the country, has been a long-time commit to Texas A&M since he announced his decision last spring, but Aggies fans are going to have to bite their fingernails a little bit in these final few weeks before National Signing Day.
Williams is reportedly set to take two more official visits to Arkansas on Jan. 20 and Oklahoma State on Jan. 27.
Williams, a Texas native, hasn't wavered in his commitment to A&M at all, but the Razorbacks and the Cowboys could both use some running back help for the future, as 2012 will likely be the final season for both Knile Davis and Joseph Randle before the two head off to the NFL.
Bobby Petrino and Mike Gundy are two of the most underrated recruiters in the country, and they'll definitely have a few tricks up their sleeves to try to land the coveted 5-star running back.
