Liverpool FC: 3 Reasons Why Top 4 Finish Is Not Possible
This has been a difficult campaign for the Reds and Kenny Dalglish.
And there isn’t really a better statement than the one above to describe the plight of Liverpool. The goalless draw against Stoke City and Newcastle United’s victory over QPR ensured our relegation to seventh in the Premier League standings.
Now is the time to ponder over a few issues gripping this club because any later would be like crying over spilt milk.
So, let’s take a look at the three reasons that can cost the Champions League spot for Liverpool.
Is This Anfield?
1 of 3The first and the most obvious question, especially after recording the seventh home draw of the campaign, is "is this really happening at Anfield?"
Excluding the draws against the Manchester clubs, Liverpool’s failure to stamp their authority in games against Norwich City, Swansea City, Blackburn Rovers, Sunderland and now Stoke has piled the pressure on Kenny Dalglish.
This is Anfield no longer sends shivers down the opponent’s vein.
And if the current record extends, then supporters should prepare themselves to hear more of "this… is Anfield?" (sarcasm) from rival gangs.
If Liverpool wants to get back into Europe, then they will have to arrest the slide at home.
Controversies Galore
2 of 3Liverpool’s topsy-turvy campaign has also seen them jump from one controversy to another.
Beginning with Ian Ayre’s television rights issue and the Luis Suarez saga to the more recent Oldham Athletic player Tom Adeyemi being on the receiving end of racist abuse and Stewart Downing getting arrested on suspicion of assault, controversies have followed them everywhere.
Quite how much these issues have affected the team’s on-field performance is not clear as yet.
But by the end of this season, we will have a good one on hand to point out!
Wrong Investments
3 of 3With the exception of José Enrique and Craig Bellamy, all of Kenny’s summer investments have produced zero return on investment.
Stewart Downing, Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson have all failed to produce results, while leading the list of flop artists at Liverpool has been Andy Carroll.
The former Newcastle United forward has cut a lonely figure in recent games and has hardly looked comfortable with the ball at his feet.
His inability to prove his mettle in the absence of Luis Suarez isn’t helping his situation any better.
Now there is just one solution to this problem. Be patient, trust the players’ abilities and hope that their performances take a detour towards betterment.
Certainly, Kenny believes and in him we believe.
Other than that, there really isn’t much that the supporters can do.
