Manny Pacquiao: Star Boxer Will Fight Mayweather If Money May Takes 50-50 Split

Jun 3, 2018

A day after Floyd Mayweather, Jr. called out Manny Pacquiao on Twitter, Pac-Man's camp has presented its terms for a potential superfight.

Courtesy of Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated, here's the latest from Top Rank founder and CEO Bob Arum:

So essentially, all Mayweather needs to do is agree to a 50-50 split and a late May fight day, and the long-awaited Pacquiao vs. Mayweather superfight will be all set.

We're going to know in the near future whether or not Arum's terms are acceptable. In a subsequent tweet, Mannix noted that Arum is looking to have the framework of a fight with Mayweather in place place by Saturday. If it's not, Pacquiao will fight someone else.

As long as somebody is willing to guarantee Mayweather's half of the split, Arum says the fight can be arranged very quickly:

Here's what Mayweather tweeted on Tuesday:

The key question, obviously, is if Mayweather is willing or able to fight in late May rather than in early May. He had a 90-day prison sentence delayed so he could fight on May 5, but he has to report on June 1.

Shortly after calling Pac-Man out, Mayweather said in a tweet that the May 5 date is "locked in." No opponent is set in stone, however, and Mayweather removed all doubt as to who he wants to fight next when he took to Twitter on Tuesday.

If Mayweather does not accept Arum's terms, it will be yet another chapter in what has been a long, drawn-out struggle between the two camps to get a fight set up.

Pacquiao last fought in November, winning a controversial victory by majority decision against Juan Manuel Marquez. Mayweather last fought in September, defeating Victor Ortiz via a controversial fourth-round knockout.
