NHL Trade Rumors: Updating Latest Rumors for Every Team as Deadline Nears

With a little over a month until the February 27 NHL trading deadline, the rumor mill is buzzing right now. Several star players such as Rick Nash, Jarome Iginla, Ryan Getzlaf and Zach Parise might be moved before the trading deadline.

Teams are looking to see if making a big move for a deep playoff run is worth it or if making a smaller move to improve depth is they way to go.

Other teams that are still fighting for a playoff spot will be looking to see if they can find that one player that would carry them into the postseason.

Let's look at the latest deadline news for every team.

Anaheim Ducks

There are a lot of rumors swirling around the Anaheim Ducks due to their poor season thus far, but one star that probably won't be traded is Ryan Getzlaf.

Bobby Ryan, however, may be moved, and several teams have expressed interest. Anaheim doens't need to make a big move, but they really need more scoring from their bottom two lines.

Boston Bruins

The Boston bruins don't need any help in the trade market right now and could easily win the Stanley Cup again with the current roster they have, provided no major injuries occur before the deadline.

With young backup goaltender Tuukka Rask recently expressing his desire to be in Boston long term, don't expect any major moves from the Bruins.

Buffalo Sabres

For the Buffalo Sabres to secure a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, they need to make a move for a big-time scorer or playmaker that can provide offense on a nightly basis.

Ryan Getzlaf and Bobby Ryan are two players (wouldn't acquire both) the Sabres may look to acquire to bolster their scoring and make a serious run in the postseason.

Calgary Flames

No player in the NHL deserves to lift the Stanley Cup more than Jarome Iginla, but he will never do that with the Calgary Flames.

Iginla will be a hot topic as the trading deadline nears, and it's likely that many teams will think about acquiring him.

With all of their injuries on offense, the Pittsburgh Penguins could be a team that goes after Iginla.

Carolina Hurricanes

It is unlikely that Carolina Hurricanes superstar and captain, Eric Staal, is moved at the trading deadline, but defenseman Tim Gleason is a good player that several contending teams would love to have for the playoffs.

The Philadelphia Flyers could be a team that takes a strong look at Gleason to bolster their defensive corps since Chris Pronger won't be returning this season.

Chicago Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks don't need to make a desperate move at the trading deadline, but injuries and their fall from the top of the Western Conference standing are a bit of a concern.

General manager Stan Bowman will likely be looking for any help he can get at the deadline, and prospects are certainly in play in a deal to bring NHL talent to Chicago.

Colorado Avalanche

Don't expect the Colorado Avalanche to be major players at the trading deadline, either as buyers or sellers.

There's just no need to when you have a young team that is still developing and that also doesn't have a shot at making the playoffs.

Columbus Blue Jackets

The Columbus Blue Jackets may trade Rick Nash this season if they can find the right deal to improve their team, and he already said he is willing to waive his no trade clause in his contract if the team wanted to trade him.

The Anaheim Ducks are the latest team possibly interested in Nash, with a rumored Getzlaf for Nash deal going around.

The Vancouver Canucks really should make a play for Rick Nash, especially since they need a power forward and have three goalies Columbus would want. We'll have to see if Vancouver becomes a serious player for Nash or not.

Dallas Stars

The Dallas Stars recently traded Krys Barch to Florida in exchange for a prospect, and I cannot see the team making any other moves.

The Stars are tied for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference, and giving up a lot of a player just to make one of the lower seeds is not worth it for Dallas.

Detroit Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings are one of the teams that reportedly have some interest in Ales Hemsky, who is in the final year of his contract that has a salary cap hit of about $4 million.

The Red Wings could use another winger that can score, but overpaying for someone like Hemsky would be really dumb.

Edmonton Oilers

There is no need for the Edmonton Oilers to make any drastic moves when they are in third-to-last place in the Western Conference, but free agent to be Ales Hemsky is someone they have to move if they don't plan on re-signing him in the summer.

There are teams that have interest, and the Oilers would be foolish not to make some sort of deal happen.

Florida Panthers

The Florida Panthers are still in first place in the Southeast Division and likely won't make any major moves to ensure they win the division this season.

They have a lot of young talent, and their best option might be to see how their young players perform late in the season with the pressure of making the playoffs is present, something the team is not used to.

Los Angeles Kings

The Los Angeles Kings are ninth in the Western Conference standing and need some help on offense to ensure they make the playoffs again.

However, with a lot of large contracts, bringing in a player who will really help them will be difficult for the Kings to do. It's really challenging to move large contracts in the salary cap era of the NHL.

Minnesota Wild

The Minnesota Wild went from first to seventh in the Western Conference in just a matter of weeks, and while they need help in some areas, scoring being one of them, there's really no point in making a major trade when they can sign a big-name player in the summer when the team has tons of salary cap room.

The Wild don't need to give up on young talent when they can make the playoffs as currently constructed, and be major players in free agency after the season.

Montreal Canadiens

The Montreal Canadiens badly need some scoring with injuries and inconsistent play hurting their offensive performance this season.

The may have interest in Jarome Iginla, but this seems like a long shot since they are not in position to win the Stanley Cup right now.

One realistic target for the Canadiens could be Anaheim Ducks defenseman Francois Beauchemin.

Nashville Predators

The Nashville Predators have two major stars that need to be re-signed in the summer, defensemen Shea Weber and Ryan Suter.

The Predators are reportedly going to talk to Weber soon regarding a new contract, and if they are unsuccessful in doing that, they may look to trade him.

The Philadelphia Flyers are just one contending team that badly needs a star defenseman such as Weber or Suter.

New Jersey Devils

The New Jersey Devils have a real interesting dilemma on their hands with the future of star winger Zach Parise, who is a free agent at the end of the season.

Parise won't win a Stanley Cup any time soon with the Devils, and he could find just as much money plus a shot at the Cup on another team.

The smart move for the Devils is trading him to get a ton of talent in return, especially if a desperate team overpays for him.

Many teams could have interest, but one surprise team with interest is the Edmonton Oilers.

New York Islanders

The New York Islanders have a lot of young talent, but I don't expect them to make any major moves to improve a team that has absolutely no shot at the playoffs.

The Islanders may have interest in acquiring San Jose Sharks goaltender Antero Niittymaki.

New York Rangers

The New York Rangers have one of the best teams in the NHL and currently lead the Eastern Conference over the Boston Bruins.

It's unlikely they make a major move when they are in first place, plus the fact they will be players in free agency next summer.

Bobby Ryan, however, may be on the trading block, and he would really help the Rangers' depth at left wing.

Ottawa Senators

The Ottawa Senators are impressively sitting in fifth place in the Eastern Conference, and making one more move could help them ensure they make the postseason.

They recently acquired Kyle Turris from the Phoenix Coyotes, and he has settled in well with the Senators.

He could be the only player Ottawa acquires before the trading deadline, and if that's the case, they are still able to reach the playoffs with their current roster.

Philadelphia Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers have had all kinds of injuries to defenseman this season, and with captain Chris Pronger not returning this season, the Flyers must acquire another solid d-man to make a deep playoff run.

Tim Gleason of the Carolina Hurricanes is a good option for Philly and probably won't be as difficult to acquire as a Shea Weber or Ryan Suter of Nashville would.

Phoenix Coyotes

The Phoenix Coyotes don't need to make any more trades this season after acquiring good young defenseman David Runblad from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for Kyle Turris.

Veteran winger Shane Doan probably won't be traded, so the Coyotes likely won't make any major moves going forward. Their best option is to continue to develop their many young players with a lot of talent.

Pittsburgh Penguins

With star offensive players James Neal and Jordan Staal out for at least a few weeks, the Pittsburgh Penguins really need to make a move to even reach the playoffs.

They are only one point ahead of the Winnipeg Jets in eighth place in the Eastern Conference, and they could be in danger of missing the playoffs if they struggle without Staal, Neal and Sidney Crosby in the coming weeks.

The Penguins reportedly have interest in Jarome Iginla and Alex Hemsky, both of whom would be a good option to improve the team.

San Jose Sharks

The biggest concern for the San Jose Sharks this season is to be healthy when the playoffs arrive, and a major trade isn't really a need for the Sharks.

One player who could be traded is backup goaltender Antero Niittymaki, and the Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Islanders may have interest in him.

St. Louis Blues

The St. Louis Blues have a great chance to make some noise in the playoffs this season, especially since goaltender Brian Elliott is still playing like a Vezina Trophy candidate.

The Blues are fourth in the Western Conference and are tied with the Detroit Red Wings for first place in the Central Division, so there is no need to make a major move, especially when you consider that they have money to spend in the loaded free agent class next summer.

Tampa Bay Lightning

The Tampa Bay Lightning are in 13th place in the Eastern Conference and have to look at acquiring a young goalie to lead the franchise into the future.

They should look at trading for someone like Vancouver Canucks backup goaltender Cory Schneider, but after he beat the Boston Bruins on Saturday, prying him from Vancouver could be a real challenge.

Toronto Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs always have numerous trade rumors surrounding them, so here are some of the latest involving Brian Burke's team.

• The Maple Leafs may be looking at San Jose Sharks goalie Antero Niittymaki.
• Anaheim Ducks forward Ryan Getzlaf may be moved at the deadline, and Brian Burke knows him well from their time together during the team's 2007 Stanley Cup title run.
• Eric Staal trade rumors have not gone away, but the chance of him coming to the Maple Leafs do no look good, especially considering his salary cap hit is over $8 million.

Vancouver Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks need a power forward, but I don't expect them to make a major trade for a star forward such as Rick Nash that would really cost the team a lot and would hurt their salary cap flexibility.

Backup goaltender Cory Schneider has been a trade topic this season, but he seems to be playing too well for the Canucks to part ways with him, especially after his big win in Boston on Saturday.

Washington Capitals

The Washington Capitals have been a team rumored with having interest in Calgary Flames star Jarome Iginla, and a possible Alexander Semin and Iginla swap has been a rumor as well.

Iginla would really give the Capitals another goal-scoring threat on offense, and he would be far more consistent than Semin has been with Washington this season.

Winnipeg Jets

The Winnipeg Jets are one point out of a playoff spot this season and don't need to give up any young talent to acquire a proven NHL player just to make a six, seven or eighth seed in the Eastern Conference.

The Jets can make the playoffs with their current roster and are better off developing their young talent going forward than making a big trade.
