Arsenal may have signed a short-term cover for striker Robin Van Persie in club legend, Thierry Henry, who will spend two months on loan from MLS' New York Red Bulls with the hope of helping his erstwhile club to a top-four finish at the end of the season, but the search for a long-term solution continues.
Latest reports indicate the club could be making a move for Matias Suarez, Anderlecht's 23-year-old Argentine striker. Tribal Football reports:
The 23-year-old Argentine, who has scored seven Belgium Pro League goals in 18 appearances so far this term, has emerged on the radar of both the Gunners and French club Marseille according to reports.
Gunners scouts have watched Suarez, who also has seven Europa League goals this campaign, and are believed to be keen on the £10million-rated former Belgrano man who admits a move to a bigger club is something he yearns for.
According to the site, Suarez, speaking to Argentine media, has admitted interest from two clubs.
I do dream of a big transfer, but for now it seems quiet. There are two clubs interested, but if it does not happen this winter, so be it and I will then do everything to make Anderlecht champions.
Yours truly must now make three confessions.
The first one is to readers who follows him on B/R.
No, he has not sold his soul to the transfer market. He never said never, plus observe that he's not simply recycling the well-beaten names.
He's trying to stay with what he considers real news. Please understand that yours truly must try to keep his head above water. He promises to continue writing analysis in the midst of all these.
The second is to everyone who is reading this.
Yes, he tried to lure you in by being vague about which Suarez the news is about. He's sure you were mad when you saw the headline...no?
Yours truly is delighted by every read and is hoping that you become one of his followers if you're not already. He wishes to apologize for this little deceptive turn.
The third one is about the news itself.
If there's any grain of truth at all in the report—notice that Suarez doesn't say which two clubs have shown interest—then it shows that Arsenal are really working hard to find a long-term cover for Van Persie.
But is Matias Suarez the right option?
Yours truly doesn't think that's the right option for now. He thinks Arsenal need someone who can make immediate impact on the current season. Will Suarez be better than Ju-Young Park?
Yours truly has said very little so far about Lukas Podolski. He thinks that's the right man for Arsenal at the moment, but he welcomes your opinion.
