Alshon Jeffery was doing wonders for his NFL draft stock by dominating the Nebraska Cornhuskers, but he threw it all away by getting into an altercation with Nebraska's Alfonzo Dennard.
Just before halftime, Jeffery caught a 51-yard Hail Mary pass to give the South Carolina Gamecocks a 16-13 lead over the Cornhuskers.
In the third quarter, Jeffery and Dennard start the pushing and shoving during a routine route, but it escalates further than it should have when punches are thrown.
Jeffery has until January 15th to declare for the NFL draft, and this ejection could have an impact on his decision. The last thing he needed to do was get labeled with character issues in the final game of the year.
Listed at 6'4", 229 pounds, Jeffery has excellent size and strength for the NFL. His quickness and separation is in question by some, and returning for his senior season could either help him or hurt him in a major way.
After a down year this season, Jeffery would be wise to depart for the NFL. Since he's given a first-round grade, there isn't much room for him to go up.
This fight doesn't help his case, but it is something he can clear up in interviews with NFL teams. Losing these players is a big loss for both teams, as each is arguably the most important player on their respective teams.
