2024 NFL Draft Big Board: B/R NFL Scouting Dept.'s Post-Combine Rankings

BR NFL Scouting DepartmentMar 7, 2024

The NFL combine in Indianapolis serves as the tipping point for the yearly draft cycle.

The event either confirms or denies what was seen throughout the regular and bowl seasons. It's also the next step of the fully engaged predraft process.

Yet the combine is what really starts to separate prospects based on medical evaluations, interviews, athletic testing and work-outs. Scouts will scramble to make sure everything matches their assessments or be forced to reassess those previous stances.

The Bleacher Report Scouting Department attended this year's combine and each of the positional workouts. After gathering information all week and making slight adjustments based on what they saw, the group pieced together its latest draft board.

Brandon Thorn: Brandon is the author of the Trench Warfare newsletter, which focuses exclusively on offensive and defensive line evaluation. He also contributes as an analyst for Establish the Run and serves as the scouting coordinator for OL Masterminds.

Derrik Klassen: Derrik is in his third year with the scouting department and second evaluating the offensive skill positions. He contributes to The 33rd Team and Reception Perception. He has spent years charting and evaluating NFL prospects, which can often be found through social media.

Cory Giddings: Cory has experience working at multiple levels of football, both in coaching and player evaluation. In recent years, he has worked with the New York Giants and collegiate teams in the Big Ten. He currently serves as the director of player personnel at UCF.

Matt Holder: Matt played college football, worked in college recruiting and is a Scouting Academy graduate. He has covered the NFL draft since 2019 and also writes about the Las Vegas Raiders for SB Nation's Silver and Black Pride.

Brent Sobleski: Brent serves as an NFL analyst for Bleacher Report. He's covered the draft since the 2004 class for multiple outlets, including 10 seasons with B/R.

5. Bo Nix, Oregon (7.0)
6. Michael Penix Jr., Washington (7.0)
7. Spencer Rattler, South Carolina (6.6)
8. Michael Pratt, Tulane (6.0)

Explain the Grade: Jayden Daniels, LSU

Daniels remains QB3, so maybe there's nothing to report here. However, Daniels' grade did drop a little bit, falling from 7.8 to 7.6. This has nothing to do with the NFL combine.

Rather, the adjustment comes after charting the entirety of Daniels' 2023 season. There's still a lot to like with Daniels, but his hesitation throwing over the middle of the field and hair-trigger instinct to leave the pocket at the first sign of trouble give me a little more pause now than it did before.

14. Dylan Laube, New Hampshire (5.7)
15. Isaac Guerendo, Louisville (5.6)
16. Dillon Johnson, Washington (5.6)

Explain the Grade: Audric Estimé, Notre Dame

The timing of moving Estimé to RB1 following his 4.71-second 40-yard dash looks ridiculous. This decision occurred before the combine, though.

Upon closer inspection of Estimé's tape, the more there was to like.

The 20-year-old is a controlled yet decisive runner who wastes zero time getting downhill. He's an assertive presence, both physically and in his demeanor as a runner. Most importantly, Estimé plays significantly faster than his timed speed.

The 221-pound ball-carrier pulled away from ACC defenders on the regular. Estimé ripped off 14 runs of at least 20 yards last year, which tied for seventh in the country.

26. Jha'Quan Jackson, Tulane (5.5)
27. Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, Georgia (5.4)

Explain the Grade: Troy Franklin, Oregon

Franklin's plummet down the board is a combination of two things.

First, Franklin's inconsistencies have become more apparent the more I've charted his quarterback, Bo Nix. Some of Franklin's struggles to find the ball over his shoulder and bend at the top of routes are more evident when compared to some of his teammates.

Secondly, Franklin had a disappointing combine performance. The junior prospect tested well, but he was the worst performer during on-field drills, constantly falling to the ground and struggling to bring in passes naturally.

9. Dallin Holker, Colorado State (5.9)
10. Brevyn Spann-Ford, Minnesota (5.7)
11. Jared Wiley, TCU (5.6)

Explain the Grade: AJ Barner, Michigan

Nothing about AJ Barner's profile pops off the page. He was not that productive at Michigan and he didn't test at the combine.

But on film, it's easy to see the world where Barner becomes a useful player.

Barner is a tough, willing blocker, both in the run and pass games. As a receiver, Barner isn't a YAC monster, but he brings a sturdy 6'6" frame with long arms and the ability to pluck the ball from the air. The Michigan product can be a solid TE2 sooner rather than later with the tools to develop into a solid, if unexciting, starting tight end down the line.

16. Garret Greenfield, South Dakota State (5.8)
17. Julian Pearl, Illinois (5.5)
18. Walter Rouse, Oklahoma (5.5)

Explain the Grade: Amarius Mims, Georgia

At the combine, Mims confirmed what was evident on his film in that he has a rare frame and build, but he also handled the media interview with the confidence of a prospect with far more than eight starts.

Mims pulled up short during his second 40-yard dash attempt that kept him out of the position drills. Prior to that point, he posted a 5.07-second 40-yard dash and 9'3" broad jump while weighing 340 pounds.

More so than changing the perception of him coming out of Indy, he solidified his perceived upside with his natural pass-protection skills and lack of bad habits, and he cemented his status as a top-four tackle with the tools and potential to get drafted in the top half of the first round.

23. Drake Nugent, Michigan (5.7)
24. LaDarius Henderson, Michigan (5.6)
25. Kingsley Eguakun, Florida (5.6)
26. Trevor Keegan, Michigan (5.4)

Explain the Grade: Taliese Fuaga, Oregon State

Fuaga likely cemented his status as a first-round pick with excellent testing numbers at the combine (9.71 relative athletic score) paired with being arguably the class' top run-blocker. His propensity for undersetting, striking down the middle and losing the corner against rushers that know how to capture the corner on high-side rushes is still a concern, especially at the next level when he likely won't be in as run-heavy of a system as Oregon State's. A move inside could really mitigate this concern while putting his strengths at the forefront.

Regardless of where Fuaga settles long-term as a pro, he will be an impact run-blocker with testing numbers to suggest refined technique would be enough to improve his effectiveness during one-on-one pass-protection reps.

16. Justin Eboigbe, Alabama (6.0)
17. DeWayne Carter, Duke (5.9)
18. Keith Randolph Jr., Illinois (5.8)

Explain the Grade: Leonard Taylor III, Miami

Heading into the 2023 season, Taylor was widely considered a potential first-round pick. However, he's been steadily declining after a tough season where he saw a dip in production, going from 10.5 tackles for loss to just 3.5.

The reason the former Hurricane was still higher on B/R's big board before the latest edition was hope the '22 version would show up in the pros since he appeared to have a great get-off.

After posting a 1.76-second 10-yard split that ranked 11th among defensive tackles at the NFL Scouting Combine, it's clear that's not the case and it was time to drop Taylor III down the board. Now, he's a fringe top-100 prospect and may fall into the Day 3 range.

Explain the Grade: Austin Booker, Kansas

Booker flew under the radar for most of the season, mainly because he was a redshirt sophomore who barely saw the field until 2023. However, he turned heads at the Senior Bowl and forced everyone in attendance to turn on the tape, which is very impressive.

The early entrant puts his long 34-inch arms to good use, showing a wide array of pass-rush moves. Granted, the former Jayhawk didn't post great testing numbers, with an unofficial 6.88 RAS, but he's young and has a lot of tools to work with to raise his ceiling at the professional level.

14. JD Bertrand, Notre Dame (5.7)
15. Jontrey Hunter, Georgia State (5.7)
16. Omar Speights, LSU (5.6)

Explain the Grade: Edefuan Ulofoshio, Washington

With an unofficial 9.55 RAS, Ulofoshio's grade bumped up a few points as he climbed up B/R's linebacker rankings. His movement skills were evident on tape, but the fact he put up impressive numbers while weighing over 235 pounds was enough to get a boost among a weak position group.

Ulofoshio still needs to improve at taking on blocks in the running game, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him continue to ascend based on performance throughout the second half of the season through till now.

24. Andru Phillips, Kentucky (5.5)
25. Myles Harden, South Dakota (5.4)

Explain the Grade: Kalen King, Penn State

King fell from grace throughout this process. After coming off a stellar 2022 season, where he had three interceptions and a whopping 21 pass breakups, he entered this past season as one of the country's premier cornerbacks.

During the 2023 season, King didn't stack up the same way against Ohio State's Marvin Harrison Jr. and the Big Ten Conference's other top receiving threats. His lack of speed showed up both throughout the season and the week of Senior Bowl practice.

Although King posted explosive jumps, he ran a relatively slow 4.61-second 40-yard dash at the combine.

Explain the Grade: Cole Bishop, Utah

Bishop is a versatile defender who was all over the field for Utah this past season. With the body of work throughout the season and a strong Senior Bowl effort, Bishop worked himself into a Day 2 pick.

At the combine, he posted impressive numbers, highlighted by his 4.45-second 40-yard dash, for an RAS score of 9.82. He also impressed with his on-field workout by showing fluidity and ball skills.

Bishop's stock is on the rise, to the point where he could work himself into late first-round talks.
