Jayden Daniels Reacts to Stefon Diggs' Goalpost Celebration After Costly Penalty in Commanders' Loss

Stefon Diggs' first touchdown in a Washington Commanders uniform came with a costly caveat.

After he found the end zone in the fourth quarter, cutting his team's deficit to just two points, he was flagged for a celebration penalty after jumping on the goalpost, an illegal move.

The penalty was enforced on the extra-point try, pushing Washington back far enough that the team had to settle for a kick instead of going for two to tie the game.

Following the contest, both quarterback Jayden Daniels and Diggs addressed the blunder:

Head coach Dan Quinn said the team would have gone for two in that situation if the Diggs' penalty didn't push them back.

"Yeah, we were going to go for two," he told reporters. "Did have a conversation with [Diggs] about that. ... I love his fight, I love what he stands for, but as the competitor that he is, he knows better than that in that spot."

It ended up being a moot point to a degree—both the Eagles and Commanders each scored touchdowns after the penalty and Washington had the chance to go for two with just over a minute remaining, though they failed to convert.

It wasn't the only issue for the Commanders in an extra-point scenario. The team also had an extra point blocked by Jalen Carter:

NFL games are often won or lost on the margins, especially in rivalry matchups. On Sunday, the Commanders very much lost on the margins.
