Week 10 Start 'Em Sit 'Em: Mediocre QBs You Can Go to Battle with

Zachary D. RymerNov 12, 2011

Some fantasy owners have Aaron Rodgers, and some fantasy owners are forced to mix and match using a selection of QBs with a fraction of Rodgers' skill.

That's just how it is in this day and age. It's not fair, but...well, it is what it is.

The bright side is that there are no bye weeks in Week 10, which if nothing else means you have more mediocre quarterbacks to choose from. Personally, I like the four quarterbacks listed below to put up good point totals this weekend.

Matt Cassel, Kansas City Chiefs

Since throwing four touchdown passes against the Indianapolis Colts back in early October, Matt Cassel has been pretty terrible. He's not the kind of guy you want to rely on too heavily.

But you can rely on Cassel this Sunday against the Denver Broncos. They've allowed more fantasy points to QBs than any team in the league, and he's likely going to have to produce for the Chiefs to have a shot at winning the game. After what we saw from the Broncos last week against the Oakland Raiders, I dare say they may have figured out the right offensive system for Tim Tebow.

Cassel is going to get plenty of throws. That's normally not a good thing, but things will be different against a team like the Broncos

Matt Hasselbeck, Tennessee Titans

Matt Hasselbeck looked pretty lousy in consecutive games a couple weeks ago, but he's been pretty solid in Tennessee's last two games.

Against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, I expect Hasselbeck to get into a QB duel with Cam Newton. The Panthers have played the pass well this year, but I don't think that's going to stop Hasselbeck from racking up numbers.

I'd expect upwards of 40 passing attempts, with a solid yardage total and a couple touchdown passes. Hasselbeck might throw a pick, but that won't keep him from having a solid fantasy afternoon.

Mark Sanchez, New York Jets

I will never trust Mark Sanchez, and I will never accept him as anything more than a mediocre quarterback.

Okay, fine; I might some day down the road. Regardless, Sanchez is coming off a game in which he completed better than 71 percent of his passes and he gets to face the New England Patriots and their atrocious pass defense on Sunday.

I'll stop short of predicting a huge game for Sanchez, but I certainly don't think he's going to be at his worst, a la the game earlier this year against the Baltimore Ravens.

Tim Tebow, Denver Broncos

We can debate whether or not Tebow should be counted as "mediocre" seeing how he's a pretty good fantasy producer, but I'm going to allow the label because Tebow is worse than mediocre by traditional NFL standards.

At any rate, the bulk of Tebow's points on Sunday are going to come from his legs. Hopefully, he'll add a rushing touchdown. Even if he doesn't, I'm anticipating at least one passing touchdown.

When all is said and done, it will be another impressive fantasy performance.
