Getting in the WrestleMania Spirit! Part 5: World Heavyweight Title Match Promos
This is a multiple part slide-show series I will be writing here on Bleacher Report to get all of you Bleachers in the WrestleMania Spirit! I really just want to do something creative to get you guys flamed up once a month in anticipation for this year’s WrestleMania.
Since there is roughly one month to go till WrestleMania XXVII in Atlanta, Georgia, I will be pumping out one to three slide shows a month, with the last of the installments out the day of WrestleMania. If you want to view the previous slideshow(s), please click on the links below. If not, keep on reading! Lets get started on this!
I've always been a fan of Jim Johnston and the WWE video and sound editing crew. They have always done an exceptional job promoting feuds through their video's and songs. I think most of you here can agree as well.
In most cases, the promo's before a big match manage to get me pumped up for the match itself. They provide an excellent video showcasing the WrestleMania feud, and along with that, they manage to put on some catchy music that relates to the feud.
So, as part of my 5th Getting In The WrestleMania Spirit series, I've decided to make a video slide-show that has my personal ranking of World Heavyweight Championship pre-match promo's from the past eight WrestleMania's since WrestleMania XIX was the first WrestleMania to feature a World Heavyweight Title match, and, of course, a World Heavyweight Title match promo.
So, without further ado, lets get started!
8. Batista Vs. the Undertaker: WrestleMania 23
Starting off at No. 10, we have Batista vs. The Undertaker. Batista and Undertaker have had the greatest rivalry in recent memory, one that lasted nearly a year. Quite frankly, I found it to be the best rivalry of 2007.
Going back to the promo, I personally liked it, but there was no WOW factor to it. Just a good WrestleMania pre-match promo. Nothing else. Most of the other promo's I've listed on here have something special about them, and for some reason, I can't get a special feeling when I watch this promo.
Great rivalry. Decent promo.
Just on a side-note, I couldn't find the video of this promo on YouTube, so if you want to view it, you can click here.
7. Triple H Vs. Booker T: WrestleMania XIX
This promo just brings back some great memories. We get a rundown of the personal life of Booker T and how much it would mean to him to win the World Heavyweight Title.
But other than that, there was no special kind of music or anything like that. In all honesty, WWE could have done a much better job with this promo.
6. Kurt Angle Vs. Randy Orton Vs. Rey Mysterio: WrestleMania 22
Man, do I miss Kurt Angle in the WWE.
Nevertheless, another great job done here by the video crew. The music shifts with Mysterio and Orton talking were just superb.
It also highlighted the feud well, in a great manner. And I love the fact that they used the WrestleMania official theme song in the end.
5. Edge Vs. John Cena Vs. the Big Show: WrestleMania 25
The 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania.
To be quite honest, I was expecting this promo to be much better than it was, but it was still great. It highlighted the feud well, and the creepy music in the beginning for Edge was great.
Other than that, the music towards the end was really awesome too, and the shifts of the beats in between clips were great.
4. Triple H Vs. Shawn Michaels Vs. Chris Benoit: WrestleMania XX
Quite arguably the greatest triple threat of all time. The rundown of the buildup was perhaps the best you'll find in any promo.
And the change in color, tone and pitch that occurred when Shawn super kicked Benoit was magnificent! On top of that, I admired the fact that the crew used the official theme song for WrestleMania 20 in this promo, as it was really fitting to the feud.
3. Triple H Vs. Batista: WrestleMania 21
I guess the Animal wasn't the only thing that was unleashed that night, seeing as how the video and sound effects crew unleashed their true potential when they created this promo.
Truly one of my favorite promos! It gave us a nice rundown of the match and buildup, and got me excited as hell for the Batista vs. Triple H match! I really like the end bit of the fast video clips being in sync with the music, ending with an epic staredown between Batista and Hunter!
2. Chris Jericho Vs. Edge: WrestleMania 26
Great promo. Okay buildup. That being said, it just goes to show how a great promo can really get you pumped up for a match, even if the rivalry is pretty stale.
I hadn't been that big on the Chris Jericho/Edge WrestleMania feud, but this promo really made it seem epic! Great job here!
1. Edge Vs. the Undertaker: WrestleMania 24
Here's your No. 1 Ladies and Gentlemen! Not only is this, in my opinion, the best World Heavyweight Championship match pre-match promo, but it also happens to be one of my most favorite promo's of all time.
It has some great sound editing, and I really love how they combine the Undertaker's music with Edge's music to make a catchy techno type beat.
On top of that, the highlights of the feud were displayed well, and it was just a really great promo overall! The video and sound effects crew should really reward themselves for making this masterpiece!
So, there you have it folks!
Obviously, if I've done a slide-show on World Heavyweight Title match pre-match promo's, then I have to do the other big championship match pre-match promo's as well. In other news, WrestleMania is less than a week away!
I really hope that you guys have been enjoying this little series of mine, and I look forward to typing up the next installment of this series. Just to let you guys know, my next part of this series will be the penultimate part, meaning that it will be the second to last.
The last part will be out on Sunday, hours before WrestleMania, and also, I will have my monthly Predictions for WrestleMania out soon as well, so stay tuned!
Until then, this is Ray Samuels signing off of Bleacher Report!
