NFL Power Rankings Week 12: Colts Can't Be Rattled

Kevin RobertsNov 24, 2009

The Colts and Saints (ranked first and second last week) remain in the top two spots, as they should, while some unlikely upsets have shaken the rest of the rankings up a bit.

Week 12 will start to open things up a bit with Indianapolis being tested by a hungry Houston team, while New Orleans will face quite arguably it's toughest test in the New England Patriots.

Read on to see where your team ranks in Week 12's NFL Power Rankings:

1. Indianapolis Colts (10-0)

They aren't winning games by decisive margins at all, and this week's was particularly ugly, but winning is winning, and undefeated is still undefeated .

2. New Orleans Saints (10-0)

They looked fantastic against a bad team, so that doesn't tell us a whole lot. They're still undefeated and easily among the elite in football, but they need to regain some consistency, and a good start would be by beating a worthy opponent in New England this week.

3. Minnesota Vikings (9-1)

They've been hearing from experts that their schedule has been soft, and that's why they are where they are. Perhaps, but if they weren't as good as they look, they would have lost more games by now. It's time everyone starts believing the Brett Favre MVP hype .

4. New England Patriots (7-3)

They destroyed the Jets and made Rex Ryan call them out for throwing the ball near the end of the game. They're in a nice spot, but the true test will be this week against the undefeated Saints on Monday Night Football.

5. San Diego Chargers (7-3)

They showed who the boss of the AFC West was with a truly dominant performance over the Broncos. They're finally beginning to realize their potential.

6. Arizona Cardinals (7-3)

Kurt Warner's head injury probably isn't serious, so the Cardinals can sit back and relax with a 7-3 record. Even if they finished 9-7 again, this division is still likely theirs.

7. Cincinnati Bengals (7-3)

Just when they convince everyone that they're an elite team, they go and lose to the Raiders. They're right back where they were before they finished sweeping the Steelers.

8. Dallas Cowboys (7-3)

Have you seen a more pathetic win this season? Tony Romo and this offense need to get it going again, and fast.

9. Pittsburgh Steelers (6-4)

They could have kept pace with the Bengals for the division, but after blowing a game against the Chiefs, there's a decent chance they could miss the playoffs.

10. Philadelphia Eagles (6-4)

They staved off a desperate Chicago team and are back in the thick of things. Hopefully they learned in Week 11 that running the ball is something they can be very good at if they simply commit to it.

11. Green Bay Packers (6-4)

Just when this team is gaining momentum, they lose two key defensive players. They might have the depth to replace Aaron Kampman, but their already suspect secondary takes a huge hit with Al Harris gone.

12. Jacksonville Jaguars (6-4)

It looks like Jack Del Rio finally has his team back, and while the opponents haven't been overly impressive, at least this team is in the position to do some damage for the stretch run.

13. New York Giants (6-4)

One win doesn't make them a good football team, but with their fast start in the first five games, it surely keeps them in the mix for the playoffs, as well as their division.

14. Baltimore Ravens (5-5)

They played hard and barely lost to a very good Indianapolis club. But you could say that for the majority of their losses this season. They're definitely a good football team. They just don't know how to finish games.

15. Denver Broncos (6-4)

Boy, they really had everyone fooled, didn't they? They are officially the AFC's version of the New York Giants. Is it any coincidence that they'll be facing that same Giants team in Week 12?

16. Miami Dolphins (5-5)

Ricky Williams showed in one game that, as much of a stud that Ronnie Brown was, he can definitely be replaced. If they can keep winning and the Patriots fall to the Saints this week, they still have a shot at this division.

17. Houston Texans (5-5)

Chalk that up as the second game kicker Kris Brown has blown for this team.

18. Atlanta Falcons (5-5)

They ran into a Giants team that was absolutely reeling and simply wanted a win more. Now they're the team that needs to fight their way out of mediocrity.

19. Tennessee Titans (4-6)

You just can't say enough about the resilience of this Titans team. Vince Young is definitely in the running for Comeback Player of the Year award, and Chris Johnson is strongly urging everyone to second-guess anointing Adrian Peterson as the best running back in the league.

20. New York Jets (4-6)

Mark Sanchez can't be benched, but clearly he can't be coached, either. That, or whoever is coaching him isn't doing his job. If the kid just settles down and limits the mistakes, this is still a good football team. Still, it's hard not to like his (and the Jets) future.

21. San Francisco 49ers (4-6)

Alex Smith may have ignited a fire in this offense, and contrary to popular belief, he still is not the issue. This defense is not as good as it was in the first four weeks, and it's clear they're still a year or two away from the playoffs.

22. Carolina Panthers (4-6)

We've learned over the past few weeks that Jake Delhomme can manage games just fine if his team backs him and his running game is on fire. But when the game has to be in his hands, he's among the league's worst.

23. Chicago Bears (4-6)

People will continue to lay the blame on Jay Cutler, but until this offensive line figures out how to protect him and move the ball on the ground, this team will just keep losing games. It doesn't get any easier against Minnesota this week.

24. Kansas City Chiefs (3-7)

As I said last week, this team has all the makings of a late-season run, and could be very competitive next year. Matt Cassel looked more comfortable in Week 11, which is very scary for the rest of the league considering his opponent.

25. Seattle Seahawks (3-7)

We knew the Vikings were the better team, but their offensive effort was just pitiful. I'm starting to really question the big-money Seattle invested in T.J. Houshmandzadeh. On a lighter note, is that Justin Forsett kid good, or what?

26. Buffalo Bills (3-7)

Dick Jauron is fired and Ryan Fitzpatrick is the starting quarterback, yet nothing has truly changed in Buffalo. At least T.O. put on a show for one game this season.

27. Oakland Raiders (3-7)

Good-bye, JaMarcus Russell. I know Bruce Gradkowski probably isn't the long-term solution in Oakland (or anywhere else), but what he did on Sunday was show Al Davis what a competent quarterback with average skills can do.

28. Washington Redskins (3-7)

They led for the entire game and fought hard, despite losing yet another player to injury. How much more bad luck can this team handle?

29. St. Louis Rams (1-9)

The Rams continue to play hard, and they're playing the game the right way. Their strides may take a hit with the loss of Marc Bulger for 3-4 weeks, however.

30. Detroit Lions (2-8)

Matthew Stafford's 422 yards and five touchdowns were very impressive. The guts it took to play through pain and throw a game-winning touchdown pass were even more impressive.

31. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-9)

I take back my assessment on Raheem Morris. He shouldn't be back for 2010.

32. Cleveland Browns (1-9)

Not so fast, Brady Quinn critics. This very well could be just an example of how bad the Detroit Lions pass defense is, but I've got a feeling it also showed us that there is some light at the end of the tunnel for Quinn, after all.
