DeAndre Jordan Trade Rumors: Rockets, Wizards, Bucks Among Teams Interested

Scott PolacekFeb 6, 2018

Los Angeles Clippers big man DeAndre Jordan could be on the move before Thursday's trade deadline.

On Monday, Zach Lowe of ESPN.com reported the "Clippers are still open for business." He noted the Houston Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers and Milwaukee Bucks all demonstrated interest, "but nothing has gotten anywhere near serious."

Lowe also wrote the Washington Wizards "have investigated the market for Jordan without getting any traction."

According to Lowe, Clint Capela's emergence as a force down low has lessened Houston's need for Jordan or another big man. He also wrote Washington would have issues paying Jordan, John Wall, Bradley Beal and Otto Porter Jr. In addition, Lowe noted colleague Adrian Wojnarowski told him on his podcast that Portland has "backed away" from Jordan for now.

"Interest leaguewide would be higher if Jordan signaled he might opt into his deal for next season, but that hasn't happened," Lowe added.

Jordan has a player option for the 2018-19 season and could become a free agent as soon as this offseason.

It makes sense for the Clippers, who are on the outside of the playoff picture, to move Jordan before he departs and they get nothing in return. They're not realistic contenders after trading Blake Griffin to the Detroit Pistons less than a year after they dealt Chris Paul to the Rockets.

Despite the reported waning interest from some teams, the Rockets, Bucks, Trail Blazers and Wizards are all in the playoff discussion, and he would bolster their interior defense.

Jordan is a three-time member of an All-NBA team and a two-time All-Defensive first-team selection. He's averaging 11.5 points, 14.9 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game behind 65.3 percent shooting from the field this season. Opponents are also shooting 2.9 percent worse than their normal averages inside 10 feet when he guards them, per NBA.com.

Given his resume and apparent availability, Jordan figures to be one of the most intriguing storylines leading up to the trade deadline.
