The year is 2004. Not since Terry Bradshaw was a FRANCHISE QB selected in the first round of the NFL draft by the Steelers. ( No I do not consider Mark Malone a franchise QB back in 1980. ) Roethlisberger signed on time learned the system, was ushered in for the injured Tommy "GUN" Maddox and never looked back. As Steeler fans we never looked back either cause our brain trust that runs this premier FRANCHISE in all of sports ( YEAH YANKEE FANS BACK UP!!! Let the Steelers show you how it's done ), bringing to us 6 Championship and appeared in 7 Superbowls has always excelled in putting together winning teams.
I am sure the Cowboys, and Redskins fans reading this are saying how dare I put the Steelers on such a pedestal. LOL LOL hey look at the facts the salaries of these two organizations alone, over the past 7 years could bail out AIG. These organizations spend money hand over fist year after year, high profile player after high profile player, and Coach after Coach after Coach after Coach, thinking that the NFL is Monopoly as long as you buy Boardwalk and Park Place that you will win. If that is the case why is Dallas stuck on number 5? Hmmmmmmmm.
I mean when does it finally come down to the Owners and the brain trusts under neath them that finally get ushered out. Your changing the players around you and coaches around you and no progress is being made. Maybe its time to change the people around the Owner that have been making the decisions changing the players and coaches around themselves for all these countless seasons.
LOL LOL LOL I have to sit here and laugh as my first focus on my article was suppose to be about Eli Manning, who is now the HIGHEST paid QB in the NFL. You can't be serious. Talking about money management and giving CASH for CLUNKERS!
I am not going to sit here now and go down the laundry list of reason why I think the Steelers as usual give us STEELER NATION the most value for our hard earned dollars you can check WOLFPACKSTEELERSFAN.COM for all the stats on why Roethlisbeger is a much better QB than Eli Manning.
I want to continue to talk about how it is not about how much money a team spends to win, but what a team invests in its players that money can't buy to win, and that is the intangibles. The Steerler brain trust giving money to players that not have just talent, but the aptitude to understand the game, a desire to play the game in sacrafice of their bodies, a desire to play in a system offensively that does not reward players with huge stat numbers ( Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison), a defense that won't crumble if one star player goes down ( Colts Bob Sanders ). We are not a team to claim we have the BEST QB in football right now and when it is time to WIN a game the Best QB in football can only position his team for field goals to get a clean snap of the football and a hope and a prayer kick ( Tom Brady, Adam Vinitearri, I will be nice and not mention the Bellicheat Scandal ). Lastly since I kinda brought it up, men of CHARACTER, yeah we have some issues, a renegade player every now and then (Plaxicco Burress) but overall the Steelers bring in HIGH CHARACTER men who are great players. This is the foundation of the Steelers that rewards individuals for being Winners on and off the field not CLUNKERS.
Any player that comes to the Steelers comes at his own RISK knowing you are not going to be paid a KINGS Ransom. Any player that comes to the Steelers know that the fans of the Steelers have a PASSION that is second to none, a patience and pride in knowing that what Ownership and those involved in personel decisions are doing, are for the benefit of the team to perform on Sunday's, the required research, and due dilligence to bring a team before Steeler Nation that we can root for and be proud of and represent us in the Playoffs just about every single year where anything can happen.
I could sit here and roll off names of players from the 70's to 2009 that have made impacts on the Steelers year after year. My lord when is the last time a Steelers team has had a record of 5 and 11 or worse? Can you even remember? I can't. Steeler Nation we have a GREAT ORGANIZATION one that has consistently delivered and I would trade them for no one else. Winning certainly does start at the top and that trickles all the way down to the man that cleans the urinals at the stadium cause they all care and they all give a damn about what it is to be a part of the Steelers and represent the BLACK and GOLD.
Wear your colors loud and proud. Hold your heads up high and hum "Here we go Steelers, Here we GO! Superbowl bound, HERE WE GO!" cause we have reason and cause to be more optimistic, and appreciative cause our beloved Management Team knows how to spend Money on Winners and Not Clunkers!!!
