Peyton Manning Rumors: Pros and Cons of Potential Suitors for the QB
It's been the most tracked story for a while now. Where will Peyton Manning play next? Money withstanding, I list the pros and cons of each team that has the most realistic chance of pursuing Peyton. He has several visits in the upcoming days, including today in Denver, followed by Arizona and Miami.
Keep in mind that it is a definite possibility that Reggie Wayne will go wherever Peyton goes. Let me know what you agree with and disagree with and who you think is the best fit.
No. 7: New York Jets
1 of 7Pros:
1. Good defense
2. Decent running game
3. Decent receiving corps
4. Good tight end
Cons:
1. Tough division
2. Same city Eli plays in
3. Rex Ryan
4. Not the best surrounding tools
Let's be honest, Manning probably isn't joining the Jets, but we'll include them for the sake of argument. He doesn't want to play in the same city as his brother, and he can find a better offense elsewhere.
No. 6: Washington Redskins
2 of 7Pros:
1. Proven coach
2. Decent offensive line
3. Decent defense
4. Santana Moss
Cons:
1. Tough division
2. Not a lot of offensive tools
3. NFC team
4. Outdoor stadium
5. He just won't look good in those colors
This is another long shot, but they've been in the discussion throughout this process. Peyton prefers playing in the AFC over the NFC.
No. 5: Seattle Seahawks
3 of 7Pros:
1. Weak division
2. Home of the 12th man
3. Good running game
4. Decent defense
5. Good coach
Cons:
1. Mediocre offense besides him
2. Outdoor stadium
3. NFC team
Seattle and Peyton just don't seem like a good fit. I can't picture him being comfortable there. Again, he prefers playing in the AFC over the NFC.
No. 4: Kansas City Chiefs
4 of 7Pros:
1. Weak division
2. Dwayne Bowe
3. Good running game (Charles health pending)
4. Arrowhead Stadium
Cons:
1. Not the best offensive line
2. Not the best defense
3. Outdoor stadium
They do have great receivers in Dwayne Bowe and Jamaal Charles. If healthy, Charles is one of the best pass-catching running backs in the game. However, the less than attractive offensive line and defense will repel Manning.
No. 3: Arizona Cardinals
5 of 7Pros:
2. Indoor stadium
3. Weak division
4. Good running game
5. Decent defense
6. Larry Fitzgerald
Cons:
1. NFC team
2. Sketchy offensive line
Does the thought of Manning to Fitz make anyone else daydream? The Cardinals have a lot of attractive options, but if they get rid of tackle Levi Brown, the offensive line won't be in too good of shape. They weren't in too good of shape as it was. And once again, Arizona is in the NFC.
No. 2: Denver Broncos
6 of 7Pros:
1. Playoff team
2. Weak division
3. Good defense
4. Good running game
5. Ryan Clady
6. Light air
7. Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker
8. Defensive-minded coach
9. Old college mate Todd Helton lives in the same city
10. He'll look good in those colors
Cons:
1. Not the best offensive cast
2. He and Tim Tebow have the same agency
The Broncos have seemingly come out of nowhere to be one of the most talked about teams in the Manning sweepstakes. A lot of it makes sense and not a lot of it doesn't. If they can make it to the second round of the playoffs with Tebow then...
No. 1: Miami Dolphins
7 of 7Pros:
2. Good defense
3. Reggie Bush
4. Condo in Miami
5. Reggie Wayne's home
Cons:
1. Tough division
2. Inexperienced head coach
Manning would complete the puzzle for Miami. The only piece they were missing was a legitimate quarterback. There aren't a lot of reasons for him not to sign with Miami, but anything can happen.
