The New York Jets have had a very inconsistent season this year and are making a run towards the playoffs. With the playoffs in question, the Jets will have to make some moves this offseason in order to stay competitive in the tough AFC East. Here are five players the Jets should get rid of this offseason.
Shonn Greene

After showing flashes of greatness in the playoffs a few years ago, Shonn Greene has been inconsistent and has not developed into the prime-time running back the Jets envisioned.
The Jets shouldn’t have difficulty replacing him, as the free-agent running back class is fairly deep with Ray Rice, Matt Forte, Ryan Grant, Peyton Hillis, Mike Tolbert, Cedric Benson and Marshawn Lynch all being free agents.
At this point, the Jets should cut their losses with Greene and take a chance on one these other running backs.
Plaxico Burress

Plaxico Burress has not been bad in his return with the Jets.
However, Burress will be 35 next season.
The Jets may want to consider getting younger at the receiver position.
Dwayne Bowe may be someone the Jets may want to consider going after.
Bowe would be the No. 1 receiver on any team in the NFL and is a big target that Mark Sanchez could use as a part of the offense.
Replacing Burress with Bowe could do wonders for the Jets’ offense.

LT has battled injuries all year and does not have the explosion that he had when he was in San Diego.
At this point, I’m not sure how much Tomlinson has left to offer the Jets.
The Jets may be better off in investing big money in an every down back.
Rex Ryan likes to play a defensive minded game, and having a running back to give the ball 20 to 25 times a game may help the Jets tremendously.
If they can do this, Tomlinson will become expendable.
Improve the Defensive Line

This could mean changing out one or more of the defensive line.
Right now, the Jets have 22 total sacks on the season with Aaron Maybin leading at five and Calvin Pace right behind him at four.
The Jets have a great defense but they do not have anyone who can provide consistent pressure on the quarterback.
Because of this, the Jets need to get rid of some of their defensive line and bring in someone who can put some pressure on the quarterback.
Mark Sanchez

At this point, the next two months will tell whether or not Sanchez should stay with the Jets.
However, leading up to now, Sanchez has put up average numbers for the Jets and has not been the star the Jets thought they were getting out of USC.
If Sanchez chokes down the stretch this season, the Jets may be better off spending big money on a running back who can carry the offense and go get a quarterback to manage the game.
