UFC on FOX: Why the Winner of Ben Henderson vs Clay Guida Deserves a Title Shot
Guida is the former Strikeforce lightweight champion and Henderson-is the former WEC lightweight champion.
Both fighters were defeated in their title bouts by up-and-coming fighters. Henderson lost by unanimous decision to Anthony Pettis and Guida lost to Gilbert Melendez.
Both guys have a very accomplished resume and have beaten some great names in their run to this No. 1 contender position.
Guida is on a four-fight win streak and for the first time in his five-year UFC career he is this close to a title. His last two fights have been victories over Pettis and a "Submission of the Night" victory over Takanori Gomi.
Not to mention, Guida is an insanely entertaining fighter and is very well rounded.
For Henderson, it is the same. Since his loss to Pettis at WEC 53 in December, he has beaten Mark Bocek and defeated top five lightweight Jim Miller very decisively.
These two guys have put together excellent resumes and are the best of the best in the lightweight division. With Gray Maynard out of the title picture, these are definitely the next two guys to earn a shot at the UFC lightweight gold.
