The 20 Funniest Moments in MMA History

0 of 20

MMA is a violent sport that fans watch to see knockouts and submissions, not for comedy.

But every once in a while there is a slip of the tongue or some outrageous event that has fans clutching their sides with laughter.

Whether you’re a sucker for Chael Sonnen quotes, a TUF fan or a fan of post-fight hijinks, I can guarantee you’ll find something on here that makes you chuckle.

Wanderlei Silva Wants to Do What to Chuck?

1 of 20

Kicking off the list is one of the most infamous moments in UFC history.

When Wanderlei Silva entered the Octagon at UFC 66, he went in to challenge Chuck Liddell and promote what was going to be one of the biggest fights in UFC history.

But Wanderlei somehow mixed the words “Chuck” and “Fight” and ended up saying he wanted to “F*** Chuck.”

Kalib Starnes vs. Nate Quarry

2 of 20

One of the worst fights in UFC history took place at UFC 83, when Kalib Starnes “fought” Nate Quarry.

I put fought in quotes because Starnes evidently showed up to do anything and everything else, running away from Quarry the entire fight and refusing to engage.

Quarry eventually got frustrated and started mocking his opponent, even doing the running man.

Heath Herring Gets Kissed, Delivers a KO

3 of 20

Another memorable MMA moment came at K1’s Dynamite show on New Year's Eve 2005.

Heath Herring was set to fight Yoshihiro Nakao, but during the pre-fight stare-down Nakao kissed “The Texas Crazy Horse” on the lips, causing Herring to freak out and knock him unconscious before the bout even started.

Run, Forrest, Run

4 of 20

Forrest Griffin was supposed to be one of the toughest fights of Anderson Silva’s UFC career and was a significant step up in competition compared to Silva’s previous opponent at 205, James Irvin.

But Silva ran through the former Ultimate Fighter winner and knocked him out with ease, causing Griffin to get up and run out of the Octagon after the fight.

Chael Sonnen

5 of 20

What is there to say about Chael Sonnen that can even remotely describe the middleweight contender?

You know, the video really says more than I can.

Forrest Griffin on Chris Leben

6 of 20

Chris Leben was absolutely insane during the first season of The Ultimate Fighter, but after Josh Koscheck and Bobby Southworth turned the hose on him while he was sleeping, he went to a really dark place.

Leben punched through the door of the room that Forrest Griffin was sleeping in, and Griffin gave us the fantastic quote in the video.

Lesnar Goes Nuts at UFC 100

7 of 20

Brock Lesnar just looks like an intense dude, and he showed how insane he could get after he beat Frank Mir at UFC 100.

Lesnar charged Mir after the fight, getting in his face and talking trash, and during his post-fight interview he made comments disrespecting the UFC’s sponsors and then proceeded to tell the world he might even “get on my wife tonight.”

Matt Riddle Is an Original Pranksta

8 of 20

This is a hidden gem, but Matt Riddle might be the funniest fighter to ever appear on TUF.

He always has a smile on his face, and he pulls off some ridiculous pranks, including putting a glob of shaving cream on the head of a sleeping Rampage Jackson.

But his best moment can only be seen on the deleted scenes of the DVD, where he breaks eggs all over Jeremy May’s bed, causing May to interrogate the entire house while a drunken Riddle follows him around and offers his advice.

Of course, this clip has nothing to do with any of that, but it shows a little of Riddle's sense of humor.

Mark Coleman Celebrates a Bit Too Hard

9 of 20

When Mark Coleman won the 2000 Pride GP, he legitimately freaked out and started running around the ring like a madman.

However, a misguided attempt to jump onto the ropes lead to him falling flat on his back in a hilarious moment.

I Am Not Impressed with Your Performance...

10 of 20

Shortly after Matt Hughes defeated BJ Penn at UFC 63, top contender Georges St-Pierre walked into the cage and delivered the line that has been mimicked by every MMA fan at least once.

The timing, the accent, the situation—just everything about this was comedy gold.

Nick Diaz Has Harsh Words for Ariel Helwani

11 of 20

Nick Diaz is usually pretty tough on the media, but he was particularly hard on Ariel Helwani prior to his fight with Paul Daley in April of this year.

He first told Ariel that he didn’t even want to do the interview and then said that people like Helwani “would get slapped” in his neighborhood.

Randy Couture Spanks Tito Ortiz

12 of 20

Tito Ortiz was the most dominant fighter in the UFC for a while, but Randy Couture showed up at UFC 44 and showed him who was boss.

While dominating the fight, Randy took time to give Tito a little bit of a spanking and hopefully said something along the lines of “Who’s your daddy?” when he did it.

Diego Sanchez's Drunken "Nightmare"

13 of 20

The fighter formerly known as “Nightmare” has had a few instances where he has drunk a bit too much and made himself look bad.

The best was on the first season of TUF, where he was so drunk he was unable to stand and had to be helped to bed by Kenny Florian, among others.

He wasn’t helped when Josh Koscheck told him, “The aliens are coming,” causing Diego to thrash around on his bed and start moaning in fear.

Double KO

14 of 20

    This is pretty self-explanatory.

In fact, just watch the video and try not to die laughing.

"Hit Him with Your Groin, Georges!"

15 of 20

UFC 100 was the biggest event in UFC history to that point, and the co-main event between Georges St-Pierre and Thiago Alves was a main attraction on the card.

GSP was dominating the action, but in Round 3 he tore his groin while grappling with Alves.

When he came back to his corner and told coach Greg Jackson, Jackson came back with the now infamous “Hit him with your groin, George.”

Mike Goldberg

16 of 20

If Chael Sonnen is the king of saying outlandish things, Mike Goldberg is the king of making stupid comments.

I think Goldberg does a damn good job covering the events, but every once in a while he slips up and we get some comedy gold.

Nick Diaz Gives Frank Shamrock the Finger

17 of 20

Diaz makes his second appearance on the list, this time due to his actions prior to his fight against Frank Shamrock.

While attending a press conference before the bout, Shamrock walked across the stage to shake Diaz’s hand, but Diaz decided a middle finger salute would be a more appropriate way to greet his opponent.

Joe Rogan vs. a Bag of Ice

18 of 20

Joe Rogan is a standup comedian, so I usually go into a UFC event expecting him to make me laugh once or twice, but his verbal explosion over a bag of ice being ripped at UFC 109 was one of the best moments of his career.

Dan Henderson Destroys Michael Bisping

19 of 20

When these two were coaches opposite each other on The Ultimate Fighter Season 9, Bisping did a lot of talking to try to get under Henderson’s skin.

Henderson repeatedly said he would finish things in the Octagon, and he did just that, landing a brutal right hand and giving us one of the most iconic pictures in MMA history.

Ken Shamrock Will "Beat You into the Living Death"

20 of 20

Prior to their first of three fights, Ken Shamrock and Tito Ortiz were at a pre-fight press conference when Shamrock gave us one of the best quotes in MMA history, telling Ortiz that if he wasn’t ready, he would “beat him into the living death.”

As funny as the quote is itself, Tito’s insane laughter is what makes the clip one of the best on the web.
