The Panthers are 6-2 and in first place in the NFC South. The Raiders hold the same record as last season, 2-6, and in 3rd place in the mediocre AFC West.

Oakland has become a circus, with Al Davis as ring leader. Since Davis fired Lane Kiffin in favor of offensive line coach Tom Cable, the Silver and Black have been outscored 100-29 in their last four games.

The Raiders have released CB Deangelo Hall (who signed with the Redskins) this week with the Raiders secondary being one of the NFL's worst. CB Chris Johnson will get the nod at starting CB next to pro-bowler Nnamdi. Sources say that Al Davis is set to release Tommy Kelly and Javon Walker next week. LT Kwame Harris will split time with young Mario Henderson. QB Jamarcus Russell is listed as doubtful and probably will not play. Andrew Walter should get the start.

Just when the Panthers expected to get center Ryan Kalil (missed last four games, ankle) and tackle Jeff Otah (missed last three games, ankle) back to solidify their offensive line, rookie RB Jonathan Stewart is in jeopardy of missing his first game of the season with a heel injury. Stewart is officially listed as questionable on the team’s injury report.

The Carolina Panthers are 9.5 point favorites over the Oakland Raiders, although the Panthers have been dominated in their last two road games, by Minnesota and Tampa Bay, respectively.

Last week’s home loss to the Atlanta Falcons has not inspired any confidence in the Raiders. This team was dominated about as bad as a team can be last week and it was on their home field. Therefore, not much seems to be in Oakland’s favor this week. Have the Raiders lost their pride as a team and as an organization? This will be a statement game for the young Raiders and I expect them to play close with a Carolina team, which has had problems on the road so far in 2008.

Carolina will win, but Oakland will easily cover the 9.5 point spread.

The Silver Fox Forecast: Panthers 27, Raiders 24

Joshua 24:15 “But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.”
