It's time to truly rejoice Raider Nation!
As of today, it's become official, The Oakland Raiders have released quarterback JaMarcus Russell off the team. Yes! Senior Executive, and resident puppet, John Herra has confirmed this to the Associated Press Thursday saying, "We wish him well".
Oh this is just too good.
JaMarcus Russell in three years with the Raiders had: 354 attempts, 680 attempts, 52.1 pct, 18 touchdowns, 23 interceptions, and 4,083 yards. For his credit, Russell was never given an offensive line to block him, or a veteran receiver to help him develop. Instead being virtually thrown to the wolves in the NFL.
However, that didn't stop him from falling to third on the depth chart last season, after a few awful games (ex. Jets, Giants, Texans). Nor did it make up for his lazy attitude, weight issues, and overrall lack of commitment to his team.
You can disagree all you want, but those are the facts.
So with the coming of Jason Campell, it appears was the true marking of the end of the Russell era in Oakland. Although, it was obvious Tom Cable wasn't a fan of his, it does beg the question as to what pushed Al Davis to send packing the 24 year old.
Maybe the true belief, that his team can truly make the playoffs this year? So, why hold them down with the drama? Possibly.
I'am sure more details will emerge during the day with this, of course. But, let me just be the first to say:
Thank You Al Davis, for making another undeniably brilliant offseason move!
