Oakland Raiders Bruce Campbell. What Position Will He Play?

Bruce Campbell absolutely tore it up at the combine.  In fact, his workout was so impressive that Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay initially had the Raiders using their 8th overall pick on the intriguing prospect.  They backed off those assumptions but still projected him to go in the 2nd round.  As the NFL Draft went on, team after team passed on the project tackle from Maryland.  He ended up falling into our laps in the 4th round.  Campbell went from being a reach pick to a good value pick in the 4th.

The questions now are where will the Tom Cable use this physically gifted kid.  Bruce Campbell has all the tools you need to be a NFL offensive lineman.  He has the long body and long arms you want in a franchise tackle.  He also has the strength and speed to be a dominant guard.  The Raiders like to pull their guards and he'd fit right in at RG with some refining of course. 

If you watched the NFL Draft like I did you probably saw the "Sport Science" piece they aired.  Bruce Campbell hit a dummy with over 2,700 lbs of force.  The host said that was equivalent to getting hit while running with the bulls in Spain.  Ouch!

He then was put through a drill where a 300 lb heavy bag swings at him with 3,000 lbs of force.  Bruce pushed the bag for forward, back pedaled into his stance, and stopped the bag dead in its tracks with his open hand punch.

Like I said, Campbell has all the potential in the world to be a NFL lineman.  I hope coach Cable on the offensive line coach can bring the best out of this talented kid.  He could end up being a steal if he materializes into what Cable sees in him.  With some work, he can be an upgrade at RG over Cooper Carlisle.
