A Season In Perspective

Ryan SwierOct 27, 2009

While 3-3 and 3 games back is not the ideal start for a football team, it is also not that bad. Yet, for a San Diego Charger team a lot has been said of this meaning the season is over. Looking at the schedule however, I see a team that, barring an injury to Rivers, can easily finish 11-5 or 10-6. A record which is typically, excluding the Patriots last year, a wild card record. Let me break it down for you.

This game will either be hard fought or similar to last week at KC. While Oakland is always a challenge, this is one of the better times to face them. We should still be playing in a mentality that we cannot lose. W

Week 9 - @Giants

This is a hard game to predict due to NY's recent decline. There are many reasons to dislike this game, such as a good D-line vs. our very susceptible O-line, a high powered running attack(although not looking to good thus far), and a very capable QB-WR group. Yet, a glaring weakness for the Giants is extremely weak safety play regarding the pass, specifically the deep pass aka our specialty. I am putting this as a loss but don't be surprised if we manage to come away with it. L

Week 10 - Eagles

Somewhat of a tricky game to figure out. The Eagles lost to the Raiders in a defensive struggle and gave up 17 points to the Redskins(Detroit beat them!). However, I know they are a better team than this. That being said, i still think Jackson will have his way similar to Colston did, if not than Gates will. W

Week 11 - @Broncos

Revenge will be sweet. I hope. After losing a tough one against them at home any slim hope in winning the division lies in this game, which seems to be the games the Chargers do well in. W

Week 12 + 13 - Chiefs and @Browns

Christmas comes early for the Chargers this year with two bad teams in a row. The Chiefs may present a better game, being a division rival, but both should be easy wins. W + W

Week 14 - @Cowboys

It's December, when the Chargers play well and the Cowboys backslide like crazy. Enough said. W

Week 15 - Bengals

This game really depends on what Bengals team comes to play. The Bengals from the last 2 years we saw in Houston or the Bengals we saw dismantle Chicago. I'm not sure how important this game will be to us but I do think as long as Palmer is healthy they will be good. As of now, L

Week 16 - @Titans

This is a game that scares me, because the Titans have been terrible, but eventually they will figure something out. However, with no Albert Haynesworth, this should be a win regardless. W

Week 17 - Redskins

The Redskins are terrible. I cant see them getting good enough while Zorn is head coach for this to worry me. W

So at 11-5, in this situation could be off a game or two either way, we are looking at a wild card spot still more than likely. This battle will be between the Bengals, Ravens, Jets, and Texans. I don't believe in Sanchez and the Jets being at this same level at the end, nor do I think the Texans will either. So, a key game in our season could be Week 15 vs the Bengals. Then the real season begins with the playoffs. Let's hope we don't play Pittsburgh
