Odell Beckham Jr. Rumors: Teams Think Giants Will Keep WR Through NFL Draft
For those expecting New York Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to be traded by the NFL draft, don't hold your breath.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Wednesday the feeling around the league is that New York will not deal its star wideout before or at the 2018 NFL draft, which will be held in Arlington, Texas, from April 26-28. Teams previously believed there was a realistic possibility the three-time Pro Bowler would be dealt, according to Schefter.
Beckham is entering the final year of his contract and is scheduled to make $8.459 million, per Spotrac.

It was just last month that Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Beckham "will not set foot on a field" without a new contract. That came not long after a report by NFL Network's Mike Garafolo in February that OBJ wants $20 million per year in his next contract. Last year, he made it known in an UNINTERRUPTED interview that he wants to be the highest-paid player—not just receiver—in the league.
All of this drama follows a suspicious hotel room video involving Beckham earlier this offseason. Per ESPN.com's Kevin Seifert, Giants co-owner John Mara is on the record this offseason of saying he is "tired of answering questions about Odell's behavior."
When he is on the field, there is no denying the type of impact he can make. He had at least 90 catches, 1,300 yards and 10 touchdowns in each of his first three seasons before an ankle injury limited to just four games last year.
New York struggled mightily in 2017 without its star wideout, finishing with the second-worst record in the league at 3-13.
April's draft has always been an arbitrary deadline for a trade to get done. It gives teams the opportunity for instant payout, especially if an interested team is desperate. Of course, there's nothing that prevents the Giants from continuing to explore the market throughout the summer and beyond. If extension negotiations aren't close as the season approaches, a trade could still be on the table.
