Draymond Green, Steve Kerr Talk Warriors' Game 1 Win vs. Blazers in NBA Playoffs

Joseph ZuckerApr 16, 2017

After he nearly posted a triple-double in the Golden State Warriors' 121-109 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday at Oracle Arena, Draymond Green was naturally one of the biggest topics of discussion after the game.

Green finished with 19 points, 12 rebounds, nine assists, five blocks and three steals. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr thought the numbers illustrated how the two-time All-Star is unlike almost anybody else in the NBA, per the San Jose Mercury News' Anthony Slater:

"

Draymond was amazing. He made some tremendous defensive plays. He made threes. He rebounded the ball. He had nine assists. I mean, he played a game that I'm not sure anybody else in the league is capable of, honestly. Who else can do what Draymond just did tonight? He's so unique and so important to us. He was phenomenal.

Washington Wizards guard Brandon Jennings praised Green's effort:

NBA on ESPN noted how effective the versatile forward was on the defensive end:

Blazers stars Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum explained how Green's trash-talking ability impacted the game, per Slater:

Green was on the receiving end of the trash talk as well:

There's no question the Warriors' hopes of dethroning the Cleveland Cavaliers as NBA champions will hinge significantly on the collective contributions of Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson.

But a case could be made that no Warriors player is more important than Green.

It's no coincidence last year's NBA Finals swung in the game he missed (Game 5) because of suspension. Then he scored only eight points as the Cavs leveled the series in Game 6. In Game 7, 10 of Green's 32 points and one of his six made three-pointers came in the second half as Cleveland overcame a 49-42 halftime deficit.

If Sunday is any indication, then Green is on a mission to avenge Golden State's Finals loss a year ago.
