Darren Sproles Injury Update: Eagles RB Ruled Out for Week 15 vs. Ravens
Philadelphia Eagles running back Darren Sproles was ruled out Friday for the team's Week 15 game against the Baltimore Ravens due to a concussion.
Eagles head coach Doug Pederson announced his status via the team's official Twitter account.
For an Eagles team that's hanging on to postseason hopes by a thread at 5-8, losing one of their best offensive contributors will only make January football less likely.
Entering the season slated as Ryan Mathews' backup, Sproles worked his way into a more prominent role within the Eagles offense thanks to his dual-threat capabilities as a runner and pass-catcher.
In 13 games, he's recorded 366 rushing yards, 47 catches for 400 receiving yards and three total touchdowns.
That kind of offensive ability has been a nice security blanket for rookie quarterback Carson Wentz, who has not been gifted with the best wide receiving corps in the league.
Now with Sproles sidelined, Wentz will lose that ability to check down and hit Sproles in the flat, which could limit Philadelphia's passing game even further.
Look for Kenjon Barner to step back up as Mathews' main backup moving forward, but it will be difficult to fill the void left by Sproles.
