Riddick Placed on IR
Saturday, Dec. 31
The Lions announced the team called up wide receiver Jace Billingsley to take Riddick's place on the active roster.
Lions Must Make Do Without Riddick
Ameer Abdullah's foot injury forced Riddick to become the Lions' primary ball-carrier, and the former Notre Dame Fighting Irish star looked ill-equipped for the role.
In 10 games, Riddick rushed for 357 yards and a touchdown on 92 carries. According to Football Outsiders, the Lions rank 26th in rushing offense DVOA (defense-adjusted value over average).
Given how little Detroit has relied on the running game in 2016, Riddick's injury may not be a significant blow to the offense. The timing isn't great, with the Lions aiming for their first division title since 1993, but the lack of a consistent ground attack hasn't hindered the team much so far.
With Riddick out, Dwayne Washington and Zach Zenner will need to continue to shoulder the load.
