Stephen Curry vs. Pelicans: Stats, Highlights and Twitter Reaction
Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry set the NBA record with 402 made three-pointers last season, and he waited just seven games to set another record this season.
Curry drilled 13 shots from deep during his team's 116-106 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday. Here is a look at the 13th, which eclipsed his own (tied) record for the most in a single game:

Dame Could Return for Playoffs
The two-time defending league MVP finished the win with 46 points, five assists, five rebounds and two steals behind 16-of-26 shooting from the field and 13-of-17 shooting from three-point range.
It was a drastic turnaround from his last outing during a 117-97 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers when he scored 13 points and missed all 10 of his attempts from long range. The lackluster performance ended his streak for consecutive games with a made three at 157.
ESPN Stats & Info noted such a dramatic game-to-game improvement is incredibly rare:
According to Warriors PR, Curry led the league with 13 40-point games last season, so the scoring tally is nothing new for the sharpshooter. Chris B. Haynes of ESPN.com captured Curry warming up—the evidence of which should have tipped fans off they were in for a special night:
This is far from the first time Curry has placed his name on the all-time leaderboard for the most three-pointers in one game. Before Monday's outing, he tied Kobe Bryant and Donyell Marshall for the record at 12. He also made a couple of appearances on the leaderboard with 11, per Basketball-Reference.com:
| 1 | Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors | 13 | Nov. 7, 2016 |
| 2 | Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors | 12 | Feb. 27, 2016 |
| 2 | Donyell Marshall, Toronto Raptors | 12 | March 13, 2005 |
| 2 | Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers | 12 | Jan. 7, 2003 |
| 4 | Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors | 11 | Feb. 3, 2016 |
| 4 | Kyrie Irving, Cleveland Cavaliers | 11 | Jan. 28, 2015 |
| 4 | Klay Thompson, Golden State Warriors | 11 | Jan. 23, 2015 |
| 4 | Deron Williams, Brooklyn Nets | 11 | March 8, 2013 |
| 4 | Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors | 11 | Feb. 27, 2013 |
| 4 | J.R. Smith, Denver Nuggets | 11 | April 13, 2009 |
| 4 | Dennis Scott, Orlando Magic | 11 | April 18, 1996 |
The only way to accomplish something like that is with insane shooting abilities, and he displayed just that on Monday, as the Warriors shared:
Russ Bengston of Complex put the outing into perspective:
Curry wasn't the only Golden State player to put up impressive numbers on Monday. Klay Thompson scored 24 points, Kevin Durant scored 22 points and Draymond Green posted a double-double with 12 rebounds and 11 assists.
The defense also forced 19 Pelicans turnovers, although Anthony Davis kept it close into the fourth quarter on the other side with 33 points and 13 rebounds.
New Orleans couldn't slow Curry, though, and the Warriors dished out some advice for future opponents:
Curry averaged 30.1 points, 6.7 assists and 5.4 rebounds per night last season behind 50.4 percent shooting from the field and 45.4 percent from long range. Coming into Monday's game, his numbers were down across the board in 2016-17 at 23.2 points, 5.8 assists and three rebounds per night behind 44.3 percent shooting from the field and 35.2 percent shooting from long range.
However, that was just with a six-game sample size.
He appeared to find his stroke on Monday, which is bad news for the rest of the league as the new-look Warriors grow accustomed to playing alongside each other in the hunt for their second title in three years.
Postgame Reaction
Curry talked about bouncing back from his poor showing against the Lakers, per Anthony Slater of the San Jose Mercury News: "I was hard on myself at practice the last two days. Had some good shooting sessions."
Slater passed along Curry's press conference:
CSN Bay Area shared his postgame interview:
Curry said he didn't expect the record to stand long. It probably won't if he continues to shoot at such a lights-out pace.
