Cousins Ties Redskins Record with 15th 300-Yard Passing Game

Bleacher Report MilestonesNov 2, 2016

Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins threw for 458 yards in Sunday's 27-27 tie with the Cincinnati Bengals, tying Sonny Jurgensen's franchise record of 15 300-yard passing games as a member of the Redskins, per Sportsnet Stats.

Sunday's game in London marked Cousins' 38th career regular-season appearance and 33rd start, with each of those games coming with the same Washington team that selected him in the fourth round (102nd overall) of the 2012 NFL draft.

Jurgensen was drafted by the rival Philadelphia Eagles in the fourth round (43rd overall) of the 1957 NFL draft, spending seven years in Philadelphia—often serving as a backup—before he joined Washington in 1964.

Jurgensen finished his career in 1974 as a member of the Redskins, making 135 regular-season appearances and 108 starts for the team, notably serving as the starting quarterback from 1964 to 1970.

While he may have started and ended his career as a backup, Jurgensen also enjoyed a prolific run as a starter, earning First Team All-Pro honors in 1961 and 1969, along with a trio of passing yardage crowns.

However, he never won a playoff game as a starter, spending much of his career on teams that struggled outside of the passing game.

Cousins lost his first playoff start last season, but with the Redskins sitting at a respectable 4-3-1 heading into Week 9, it does appear he could get another shot in a few months.
