Steven Adams Agrees to Contract Extension with Thunder

Alec NathanOct 30, 2016

Oklahoma City Thunder center Steven Adams agreed to an extension on Monday, the team announced

Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, citing league sources, reported the deal was for four years, $100 million. Wojnarowski first reported Sunday that Adams and the Thunder were in talks regarding an extension.

Monday was the deadline for the two sides to agree to terms.

If Adams' development over the past couple of seasons has been any indication, he could evolve into one of the league's premier bigs in no time.

Although his counting stats have never been jaw-dropping—he averaged 8.0 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.1 blocks last season—Adams has become a rim-wrecking presence in the pick-and-roll.

To that point, Adams generated an impressive 1.12 points per possession as a roll man in Oklahoma City's offense last season.

Adams is also quickly emerging as one of the league's more imposing defensive anchors. A year ago, opponents shot just 48.8 percent against the 7'0", 255-pounder at the rim.

Considering the Thunder are trying to surround Russell Westbrook with reliable players who can complement the electric point guard following Kevin Durant's departure, it makes sense they'd sign Adams to a long-term deal.
