Ben McAdoo Comments on Odell Beckham Jr.'s Sideline Outburst vs. Redskins
Odell Beckham Jr. is one of the biggest stars in the NFL, but he is also becoming a distraction with his outbursts.
On Monday, New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo explained his concerns after the star wide receiver's tantrum on the sideline during his team's game against the Washington Redskins on Sunday, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network:
Beckham was captured hitting the kicking net in the fourth quarter:
"He was just frustrated that we didn't score the touchdown there," Giants quarterback Eli Manning said regarding Beckham's actions, per Paul Schwartz of the New York Post.
Beckham offered his thoughts on whether he'll keep his emotions in check, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN:
"Nah, I'm not really ... I'm in a great place right now. Mentally, physically, spiritually, there is not really much that bothers me at all, to be honest. So I'm going to go out and play football the only way I've ever known how to play, try my best to be the best teammate you possibly can.
At the end of the day, you play for the guys that wear the jersey. They're the ones who take the field with you, who you share the blood, sweat and tears with. I'm just going to go out and be who I am.
"
Beckham was one of the biggest storylines heading into the divisional battle thanks to his history with Washington cornerback Josh Norman. The two have feuded on and off the field over the past year, leading to a highly anticipated head-to-head matchup Sunday.
Despite being shadowed by Norman for much of the day, Beckham came through with solid numbers, finishing with seven catches for 121 yards.
However, the first of Manning's two fourth-quarter interceptions led to Beckham's emotional outburst on the sideline. The Giants lost 29-27 to fall to 2-1 on the season.
Bleacher Report's Mike Freeman provided a review of the good and bad from the 23-year-old receiver:
Beckham has 19 catches for 280 yards this year after an outstanding first two seasons in the NFL. According to the Elias Sports Bureau (via ESPN Stats & Info), he was the fastest receiver in NFL history to reach 200 career catches, requiring only 30 games.
Beckham is a game-changing talent, but he needs to control his emotions.
