Warriors Media Day 2016: Top Interviews, Photos, Video and Reaction

Joseph ZuckerSep 26, 2016

The new-look Golden State Warriors made their debut Monday during the team's media day.

Kevin Durant had already been introduced as a member of the Warriors after signing with the team, but this was the first opportunity that fans had do see the 2014 MVP side by side with his new teammates in the Bay Area.

The Warriors shared a photo of what could be one of the deadliest one-two combos in NBA history:

The Undefeated's Marc J. Spears offered a brief behind-the-scenes look at Curry and Durant's photo shoot:

In an interview with NBA TV, Durant talked about the challenges that come with suiting up for a new team and having new teammates:

Curry, the two-time reigning MVP, said he is focused more on team success than individual accolades, courtesy of NBA TV:

Entering the 2016-17 season, the Warriors may carry the highest expectations of any team ever. Last year, they won a league-record 73 games and were one game away from wrapping up a second straight title.

Curry discussed some of those expectations Monday, courtesy of the San Jose Mercury News' Anthony Slater:

In the offseason, Warriors added one of the greatest scorers of his generation. While fitting Durant into an already cohesive squad may not be easy early on, Golden State appears to be equipped to involve him in a big way.

Curry isn't worried about integrating Durant into the offense, according to Henry Wofford of CSN Bay Area:

"We got stronger, which is hard to even imagine," Klay Thompson said, per The Vertical's Michael Lee.

According to Lee, Andre Iguodala believes Durant addresses some of the team's biggest needs:

Draymond Green agreed that the Warriors needed to do something to shake up the roster a bit in the summer.

"If you're not getting better, you're getting worse," he said, per Slater. "I'm not sure how good we would've been coming back with the same team."

In terms of talent, the Warriors have the pieces to make history once again. Green, however, isn't concerned as much with setting regular-season records.

"To be quite frank with you, I don't even want to win 74 games or 75 games. It's brutal," he said, per USA Today's Sam Amick.

Gunning for 73 wins took something out of the Warriors as the 2015-16 season wore on, and that impacted their performance in the playoffs. The Warriors had the second-best net rating (11.6) in the league in the regular season, per NBA.com. In the playoffs, their net rating slipped to 6.3.

Curry's performance best illustrated that drop.

He averaged a league-best 30.1 points per game on 50.4 percent shooting during the regular season. In the postseason, those figures fell to 25.1 and 43.8, respectively. His three-point percentage also declined from 45.4 percent to 40.4 percent.

The addition of Durant should mean that Curry, Green and Thompson will have to shoulder less of the scoring burden. But it still wouldn't be surprising to see head coach Steve Kerr prioritize the health of his biggest stars in the same way San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich occasionally does by resting his veteran stars.

The Warriors and Spurs will meet in a little less than one month to tip off the 2016-17 regular season on Oct. 25. The game could serve as a preview of what's to come in the Western Conference playoffs. According to Odds Shark, Golden State is the odds-on favorite (21-10) to win the NBA title, while San Antonio is close behind at 5-1.

No matter what the Warriors do in the regular season, another year without a championship will be a disappointment in the Bay Area.
