Hall Undergoes Surgery
Tuesday, Oct. 4
The Redskins announced Hall underwent surgery, sharing a photo of the safety after the procedure:
On Sept. 26, Erin Hawksworth of ABC7 News noted that Hall told her his MRI confirmed he completely tore his ACL and that he will undergo surgery once swelling subsides.
Hall's Veteran Presence Will Be Difficult to Replace
Hall's injury wasn’t the only hit Washington's secondary took in Week 3 as cornerback Bashaud Breeland suffered an ankle injury that forced him to miss a Week 4 matchup with the Cleveland Browns.
As for Hall, the three-time Pro Bowler is a force at the back end of the defense. The 2004 first-round pick played for the Atlanta Falcons for four seasons and for the Oakland Raiders for eight games before starting his Washington tenure in 2008. He has 43 interceptions in his impressive career.
Still, he has struggled to stay on the field in recent seasons. He played in 11 games for Washington as it won the NFC East last year and just three games in 2014. The 32-year-old was durable before that, playing the full 16 games in four consecutive years from 2010 to 2013, but a serious Achilles injury in 2014 was a devastating blow in the second half of his career.
Washington could turn to Will Blackmon as a potential replacement. Blackmon, who entered the league in 2006, is in his second season with Washington after playing for the Green Bay Packers, Giants and Jacksonville Jaguars.
The veteran, who appeared in 15 games for Washington last year, is at least familiar with the team’s defensive scheme.
