Gilbert Has Struggled at NFL Level
Gilbert dealt with injuries in 2015 and played in only nine contests. He appeared in 23 of 32 games in his first two years in the league and has yet to establish himself as the impact defender many expected when the Browns selected him with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2014 draft.
Gilbert sported a mere one interception and 39 combined tackles entering the 2016 season and had a single pass defended throughout the 2015 campaign.
While he hasn't lived up to the billing of a top-10 pick in the early going of his career, he is versatile enough to help the Steelers on special teams and has served as a punt and kick returner at times.
