Latest on Doctson's Recovery Timeline
Tuesday, Aug. 23
Gruden said he thinks Doctson "can be ready for Week 1" of the regular season, and he doesn't believe the wide receiver will begin the season on the physically unable to perform list, per Rich Tandler of CSN Mid-Atlantic.
John Keim of ESPN.com reported on Aug. 14 that Doctson is expected to miss another one to two weeks.
Doctson's recovery is taking longer than anticipated. On Aug. 3, sources indicated to Dianna Russini of ESPN that Doctson would miss no more than two weeks with the injury. He has not participated in any of the team's offseason activities since May 31 and continues to wear a walking boot as he recovers from Achilles tendinitis, per Brian McNally of 106.7 The Fan.
McNally wrote, "A team spokesman insisted on Aug. 3 that the walking boot doesn’t represent a setback. True enough. He’s been wearing the boot for a while now. But it’s not progress, either. And that’s what Doctson is waiting for."
McCloughan Comments on Doctson's Injury
Tuesday, Aug. 9
During an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio (h/t Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post), Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan said Doctson's Achilles injury is "not going to be a long-term thing."
Doctson Unable to Shake Injury Bug
The Redskins added Doctson with the 22nd selection in the 2016 draft to give quarterback Kirk Cousins another weapon on the outside. The pick represented another step in the right direction for the team's aerial attack, which ranked 11th in passing yards per game last season with 256.
Injuries are starting to become a concern for the highly touted TCU product, however. He suffered a season-ending wrist injury with the Horned Frogs last year. He's since dealt with an Achilles problem in minicamp and a foot issue during OTAs, with the Achilles acting up once again.
