Forte Comments on Injury
Tuesday, Aug. 16
"I'm feeling good," Forte said, via Darryl Slater of NJ.com. "I'm just progressing week by week. I'll be out there soon. I do individual drills, and then I do a lot of conditioning stuff, to get back into football shape."
Forte went on to say he wants to avoid pushing himself too quickly and possibly aggravating the injury, adding: "This is the most patience I've had to have with an injury. They've had to hold me back. A lot of times, they have to protect me from myself."
"I headed into camp, had a slight pull, setback," Forte said on July 31, per Seth Walder of the New York Daily News. "So now we're just taking it slow so that I don't re-injure it. Hamstrings are tricky, if you re-injure it you could be set back longer."
Forte Expected to Be Big Part of Jets' Playoff Push
Forte came to the Jets after a stellar eight-year run with the Chicago Bears. He posted five 1,000-yard seasons, never missed more than four games and was one of the game's most consistent backs. The Bears allowed Forte to walk in free agency rather than attempt to re-sign him.
Brought in to be the primary back in New York, Forte was bullish on his ability to be effective despite his advancing age. He discussed his vision for the 2016 season on June 3, per Darryl Slater of NJ.com:
"I'm looking forward to getting back into having a fullback, a lead blocker, a power-type running game. I see myself being used the same way I've always been used in my entire career, in the passing game and in the run game. Whether that's being split out or running routes from the backfield, we've yet to determine that. But I'm pretty sure both will be accomplished.
"
The Jets enter 2016 with playoff expectation after posting a 10-6 record last season. Forte's versatility coming out of the backfield—he posted an NFL record 102 receptions in 2014—is viewed as a major part of diversifying the Jets offense.
