Washington Redskins vs. Philadelphia Eagles Betting Odds, Analysis, NFL Pick

OddsShark.comDec 22, 2015

The Washington Redskins (7-7) can clinch the NFC East title with a road victory against the Philadelphia Eagles (6-8) in a key divisional matchup Saturday night. The Redskins were the only NFC East team to win last week, putting themselves in position to win the division, and they are 3-0 straight up and against the spread in the past three meetings as underdogs. The Eagles can still take the NFC East, though, by winning their final two games, and they are 13-5 SU in their last 18 as home favorites.

Point spread: The Eagles opened as four-point favorites; the total was 47 early in the week, according to sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark. (Line updates and matchup report)

Why the Redskins can cover the spread

Say what you want about Washington, but this team has stepped up and delivered with consecutive wins after losing a heartbreaker to the Dallas Cowboys in the Week 13 Monday night game. That is more than Philadelphia or the New York Giants have done during that stretch, which is why the Redskins are in sole possession of first.

A 24-21 road victory versus the Chicago Bears in Week 14 as four-point underdogs should also boost the team’s confidence after going 0-5 in its first five away from home to start the season. Washington upset the Eagles 27-24 as seven-point underdogs in Week 16 last year with nothing on the line and now actually has something to play for.

Why the Eagles can cover the spread

Philadelphia remains one of the toughest teams to figure out but undoubtedly has more than enough talent to win its last two games and claim the division title. The Eagles just have to play better defensively and take advantage of a much different version of Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins on the road.

Cousins has really struggled away from FedExField outside of the win over the Bears, throwing just six touchdowns and nine interceptions in six games compared to 16 and two, respectively, at home. His passer rating is also more than 40 points higher at home, as he has completed 10 percent more of his passes there. If Philly can pressure him and force him into more mistakes, winning and covering should not be a problem.

Smart pick

Eagles head coach Chip Kelly has not had a bigger game in his brief NFL career and needs to come through or else he may be headed back to college. Meanwhile, Jay Gruden, his counterpart for Washington, faced similar pressure heading into the season and has delivered. The Redskins are not the most exciting team, but they are the most balanced in the division and will surprisingly clinch the NFC East on Saturday night.
