Super Bowl Commercials 2015: Top Ad Brands, Expected Value and Predictions

Sean ODonnellJan 27, 2015

There are many reasons to watch the Super Bowl. For most of us, it's because we're diehard fans of the game and are hoping the season ends with an epic showdown between the NFL's top squads. For others, the game offers plenty of opportunities to increase their wealth by placing a couple of smart wagers.

Finally, there are the commercials.

Super Bowl commercials have become an integral part of the league's finale. Each year, it seems as though certain brands continue their attempts to one-up their competition by creating the most hilarious or memorable ad and get viewers talking about their product. It's a smart endeavor; however, it's also a costly one.

According to Lara O'Reilly of Business Insider, NBC is asking for somewhere between $4.4 million and $4.5 million for every 30-second slot. Yeah, that's quite a chunk of change. Although O'Reilly also reported that 95 percent of ad slots were already sold out as of Jan. 7.

So what can we expect in 2015? Well, we do have an idea of what a few of the biggest brands will be putting together this year; however, we won't see their full commercials until game time. Until then, we can only speculate.

Here's a look at some of the top ad brands that will be featured during Super Bowl XLIX and predictions as to what they may have in store.

Anheuser-Busch

Bud Light is a Super Bowl staple. The beer brand has come up with previously genius spots such as the "magic fridge." This year, the company has been riding its #UpForWhatever campaign, producing some memorable commercials, including a random bar patron who winds up playing pingpong against Arnold Schwarzenegger.

That campaign will be continuing during the Super Bowl, and the company appears to have struck gold once again, as an unsuspecting Bud Light drinker steps outside to participate in a real-life game of Pac-Man. Here's an early look at the commercial:

There's not much to predict here since the commercial has already been released; however, this isn't the only ad Anheuser-Busch will be playing during the big game. Since the conglomerate does own Budweiser—and we are in the dead of winter—the prediction here is that we will see some of those majestic Clydesdales before the Super Bowl comes to a close.

Doritos

How could we possibly watch a Super Bowl without at least one brilliant commercial by the folks at Doritos? This brand has produced some incredibly memorable hits in the past, including the popular "snack attack samurai." In 2015, the company will be featuring its "Crash the Super Bowl" contest.

This contest is really intriguing. It allows the average Joe to try his or her hand at making a 30-second Doritos commercial. Already, the contest's participants have been whittled down to 10 finalists, and the public can vote for their favorite. The grand prizewinner will be selected by the voters, and that victory comes with a $1 million prize and a job at Universal Pictures.

So the prediction here is which of the 10 finalists will ultimately prevail. Well, it's simply too difficult to pick against an adorable little girl auctioning off Doritos to amp up the sales at her lemonade stand:

Let's just hope the girl gets her share of the prize money if the ad goes on to win.

Snickers

This candy company has been airing some very funny commercials depicting people acting differently when hungry (which, of course, is solved by eating a Snickers). It began when Betty White starred in an ad during Super Bowl XLIV, and it has continued with a recent edition featuring Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel.

Snickers released a teaser trailer for its Super Bowl commercial, and it's absolutely hilarious. It features actor Danny Trejo playing Marcia in an episode of The Brady Bunch. Here's a look:

So if this ad is along the same lines as the "You're not you when you're hungry" campaign, we could assume that Trejo takes a chomp out of a Snickers bar and transforms back into Marcia Brady. If that's the case, the prediction for this ad will be Marcia getting pelted in the nose with a football. It's one of the TV show's most memorable moments, and considering it's airing during the Super Bowl, it makes plenty of sense.
