Peyton Manning Sets All-Time Record with 14th 400-Yard Game

Bleacher Report MilestonesNov 4, 2014

Though it didn't get him the desired result, ESPN Stats & Info indicates Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning set an all-time record during Sunday's 43-21 loss to the New England Patriots by recording the 14th 400-yard passing game of his career.

Previously tied with Dan Marino at 13 career 400-yard games, Manning took sole possession of the record with a 438-yard showing, reaching the milestone on a six-yard pass to wide receiver Demaryius Thomas with under six minutes remaining in the blowout.

Thomas, who is having an excellent season of his own, had earlier eclipsed the 100-yard receiving mark for a fifth straight game to extend a franchise record.

There have been just 18 instances of a player topping 100 receiving yards in five or more consecutive games. No Bronco had previously reached the mark in more than three consecutive contests.

Getting back to Manning, the 38-year-old quarterback recorded four 400-yard outings during his record-smashing 2013 campaign, and he's now added two more through eight games this season.

He surprisingly didn't have any such performances in 2012, his first season with the Broncos.

ESPN Stats & Info noted that Manning also earned another key record during Sunday's crucial AFC matchup, becoming the first player to throw for multiple touchdowns in 14 consecutive games.

Manning broke a tie at 13 games with himself (2004), Aaron Rodgers (2011), Tom Brady (2010-2011) and Don Meredith (1965-1966).
