Rex Ryan Is Da Man!!!

Yesterday, I said that somewhere, Nick Anderson is smiling.  I think given what's been going on since Rex Ryan arrived in New York, someone else is smiling from ear to ear.

Rex's father Buddy Ryan.

Any father will tell you that nothing makes him prouder than seeing his son excelling in a field better than he did.  I mean, Rex Ryan has not coached a down in the NFL and he is generating headlines via talking junk.  Buddy Ryan boldly declared upon getting hired in Philadelphia and later in Arizona, "you've got yourselves a winner".  Remember, this is also the same Buddy Ryan who took pleasure in getting under former Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson's skin.  Now Rex is keeping that legacy alive.  As the saying goes: like father, like son.

Ryan kicked things off when he took a shot at the Patriots when he said he didn’t become a head coach “to kiss Bill Belichick’s rings.”  Ryan followed it yesterday with a jab at Miami Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder, who recently chided the first-year coach for his braggadocios ways.  Crowder clowned Ryan by saying the coach was “the OTA (organized team activity) Super Bowl winner.”  Check out Ryan's response:

“I don’t know who Channing Crowder is, but I’m certainly not going to worry about what somebody else has to say.”

Ryan finished the smack-down by saying, “If I was younger, I’d take care of this myself.”

Now that's what I'm talking about!  Take that Channing (sidebar: anyone named "Channing" should not be talking trash about ANYONE)!!!  In a league of boring-ass coach-speak, it is refreshing to see a coach not afraid to talk smack with other players and coaches.  Hell if anything, I am looking forward to watching the AFC East thanks to Ryan.

Even though I've dedicated this rant to my love of Rex Ryan, I have to post Crowder's response -- mainly because it was hilarious:

''Oh, Lord have mercy. What's wrong with him? Now he's talking about preparation? We play them twice this year. If he wants to be prepared, shouldn't he know the starting middle linebackers of his division rival?''

There's more...

''He says he'd take care of me if he was younger?. I'd have beat the hell out of that big old joker. Or if he really wants to get retro, my daddy or my uncle could have handled him. Don't get big. Win with preparation? Start watching some tape and learn who your rival is. Come on now.''

Of course, Ryan wasn't about to let that one go.  Check it out:

"Let's see if he can top this one. I've walked over tougher guys going to a fight...He can send himself and his father after me."

Bring it Channing!  Memo to Joey Porter and Terrell Owens: you guys are next...
