If the Lakers Win the Title, What Does It Say About Kobe Bryant?

Brandon RibakJun 7, 2009

Ever since Shaquille O'Neal departed from his beloved Los Angeles Lakers, all the talk has been about if Kobe Bryant is capable of winning a championship...on his own.

It has now been five seasons since O'Neal left Bryant behind and the Black Mamba has still not be able to grab his first title, Shaq-less.

In an interview when asked about if he believes he can win a NBA Finals without Shaq, Bryant stated that it was not all Shaq that helped him in winning those three rings, it was about the team. Derek Fisher, Robert Horry, all those guys helped us in capturing the victories, not just O'Neal.

So if Los Angeles Lakers do indeed win the championship this season, what does that say about the immortal Kobe Bryant?

Personally, it does not prove much. Whether your a Shaq lover or a Shaq hater, Bryant is 100 percent correct regarding to the above statement that he made.

Although Shaq was a critical part of the Lakers play during the seasons that they won the Finals, they would have never won any ring without the athletes that played on their roster.

The Lakers did not play a one man type of game (like the Cavaliers did this playoff season), they played as a team and won as a team.

If Bryant wins a title this season, it goes to show that the sky is the limit for the Mamba. It shows that the man can literally do anything on the basketball court and be victorious while doing so.

It proves that when a superstar legend has a supporting cast surrounding him and the experience needed to win games, it is not just about one single player when thinking about how a team won the Title.

To me, it was never really about, oh Kobe can't win a title without O'Neal, it was always more like, when Bryant gets the all around support he needs from his team, I have no doubt in my mind that he will capture a ring, and this time, it will be without Shaq daddy.

When the day does come, I can guarantee you reporters will bombard Bryant with questions about how it feels to win without Shaq for the first time...and you know what Bryant will say back?

He will say, it feels great.
