All-Time NBA Team! 15 Players!

Danny DukkerMay 4, 2009

Well this is one of the most heated debates in Sports History. I figured, I might as well weigh in on the issue at hand.

I will share my all-time starting and bench-warming lineup and why I picked who I picked.

Note: Players were chosen based on their playing during their prime.

John Stockton, Point Guard

He holds NBA records for the most steals and assists by any player. There is really nothing else to argue. He is the best point guard to ever play in the NBA.

Michael Jordan, Shooting Guard

The biggest no-brainer in history. If you think there is anyone better than Michael Jordan, you cannot call yourself a basketball fan. He is the greatest and will always be the greatest.

Larry Bird, Small Forward

In my opinion, the second-greatest basketball player of all time. This is arguable, and I will understand if you see it differently. He was a great shooter, defender, and leader. He won three NBA championships and three MVP awards. He is deserves this.

Tim Duncan, Power Forward

Consistent.

Not flashy, but consistent. This a very hard thing to come by and should not be taken lightly. He puts up great numbers virtually every year, and he averages 20-plus points and 10-plus rebounds. A lock for this position.

This was the hardest decision to make. It was nearly impossible to choose, but in the end I went with the guy that broke down rims. When the NBA has to re-manufacture their rims because of one player, well, that's got to be enough to land him in this spot. In my opinion the greatest center of all time.

Now comes the equally impressive bench—

Oscar Robertson, Point Guard

This was the second-hardest decision to make. He averaged a triple-double for a whole season! That puts him a slight notch above every other great point guard (except for Stockton). He has to be in this spot, he earned it. Oh, and just one more fact in my defence, he led the Bucks to a championship, that's crazy.

Jerry West, Shooting Guard

He's the guy on the logo.

"Mr. Clutch" is the only player to win an NBA Finals MVP Award despite losing (1969) the series. He is one the Laker greats and it would be a disgrace for him not to be here.

Julius Erving, Small Forward

The classiest guy in the NBA. Without him, basketball would not be basketball and the NBA would not be the NBA. He paved the way for guys like MJ, Wade, LeBron, Wilkins, and many others. The Doctor is deserving of his place and if it was not for Bird, he would be a starter.

Karl Malone, Power Forward

A great player on both sides of the court. He is the second greatest scorer of all time. Unfortunately, he never won a championship along with John Stockton.

Hakeem Olajuwon, Center

"The Dream" is downright one of the best centers of all time. It hurts me to put him on the bench, but, hey, he is still in the game. When the game gets tight, just put this guy in, and he'll lock down the paint. The man hasn't broke rims, but he is just as impressive.

Now, another five to max out the team.

Wilt Chamberlain

Yeah, yeah, I know people will say he should have been a starter or a sixth man, but I still think Shaq is more dominant. He is a great player. The fourth leading scorer and the best rebounder in the league. He scored a hundred points in a single game! Now this guy is impressive.

Charles Barkley

This "little" guy was explosive! His rebounding was and still is unmatched for a player of his size. He could score, pass, rebound, and defend. He remains one of the greatest player and I don't think he'll lose that title any time soon.

Magic Johnson

The biggest smile in the NBA. "Showtime" is one of the greatest. He should have been a Small Forward or a Shooting Guard, but he wanted to pass the ball. Well he did it! Unfortunately "passing the ball" hasn't worked for him outside the NBA... Has it?

Dwyane Wade

One of the best defensive players in the game. His offense isn't too shabby either, but his defense is one of the best. He is one of the best.

Elgin Baylor

An undersized forward, he managed to average 13.5 rebounds per game and his running bank shot was unstoppable. A player who deserves to be where he is.

Honorable Mentions—

Kareem

In my opinion, not a match against the centers on this list, but still a great player.

James Worthy

He was going to be on the list, but something stopped me. No doubt he achieved a lot, but there was something that stopped me.

Mark Jackson

A great point guard who should be on the list, but still not a match.
