After a cash strapped start to the 2012 season, the Oakland Raiders and general manager Reggie McKenzie will start to see some breathing room and available cap in 2013. McKenzie will be looking to fill some key areas on both sides of the ball.

Let’s take a look at the six key free-agent players that will help fill positions for the Oakland Raiders in the 2013 season.

Cliff Avril, DE

  • Current Team: DE Detroit Lions
  • Height: 6'3"
  • Weight: 260 lbs
  • Age: 26
  • College: Purdue
  • Experience: 5th Season

Cliff Avril may be the best available free-agent pass rusher on the market for 2013. With over 30 sacks and 151 total tackles so far in his career, he can be a consistent threat from the end that the Raiders sorely need. Avril brings not just pass-rushing talent, but a degree of youth to the line as he turns 27 next season.

Jake Long, OT

  • Current Team: Miami
  • Height: 6'7"
  • Weight: 319 lbs
  • Age: 26
  • College: Michigan
  • Experience: 5th Season

The four-time pro bowl offensive tackle, Jake Long is a no-brainer. Oakland’s offensive line issues have been front and center under offensive coordinator Greg Knapp’s west-coast offense. Long can come in as an experienced, seasoned five-year veteran that is still young enough to be a fixture on the Raiders offensive line for years to come.

Long does have leverage when it comes to money. With Joe Thomas setting the new standard for offensive tackles with a seven-year, $84 million dollar contract, Oakland will be hard pressed to match those types of numbers.

Ryan Clady, OT

  • Current Team: Denver
  • Height: 6'6"
  • Weight: 315 lbs
  • Age: 26
  • College: Boise State
  • Experience: 5th Season

Can the Oakland Raiders afford a five-year, $50 million offer? That’s an offer Ryan Clady turned down from the Broncos prior to this season. If Raiders GM McKenzie can work some negotiation skills, Clady would be a large (and young at 26) prize for Oakland.

 Dwayne Bowe, WR

  • Current Team:  Kansas City
  • Height: 6'2"
  • Weight: 221 lbs
  • Age: 28
  • College: LSU
  • Experience: 6th Season

The 6th year Kansas City Chief wide receiver Dwayne Bowe has made no qualms about how he feels about staying in Kansas City.

How much do you think he’d love staying in the division and playing against his old team twice a season? Oakland would fit that bill. The Raiders are also in dire need of his services. Bowe would give Oakland quarterback Carson Palmer a reliable route runner who has three thousand-yard seasons under his belt.

Brent Grimes, CB

  • Current Team: Atlanta
  • Height: 5'10"
  • Weight: 183 lbs
  • Age: 29
  • College: Shippensburg
  • Experience: 5th Season

Oakland Raider safety Michael Huff has done an amazing job filling in at cornerback, however Oakland needs to address the lack of depth at this position. Atlanta Falcons cornerback Brent Grimes will be high on Oakland Raider coach Dennis Allen’s list.

Grimes is coming off of a short 2011 season, after playing a full 16 games in 2010. With 11 combined interceptions in 2010 and 2011, Grimes will come in as an aggressive presence for Oakland’s defense.

Rey Maualuga, MLB

  • Current Team: Cincinnati
  • Height: 6'2"
  • Weight: 265 lbs
  • Age: 25
  • College: USC
  • Experience: 4th Season

Rey Maualuga is the USC product who was born in Oklahoma. Maualuga has had a steady career with the Cincinnati Bengals. Averaging 75 total tackles the past three seasons, by 2012 we’re seeing a solid middle linebacker that is also an emotional leader, which are two things the Oakland Raiders are in desperate need of.
