The New Orleans Saints will have a special fan in the crowd when they host the San Diego Chargers Sunday afternoon.
That fan goes by the name of Sean Payton.
The news comes from FOX sideline reporter Jennifer Hale:
Let's take a look at this newest development.
What it Means
Unless Payton will be calling plays from the cheap—well, probably not so cheap—seats, this shouldn't have a huge impact on the game.
Still, having the suspended Payton, GM Mickey Loomis and linebackers coach Joe Vitt in attendance undoubtedly will cause a stir among the crowd, which could provide that extra buzz or motivation that the Saints have been lacking.
Will Sean Payton's presence have any type of an effect on New Orleans?
At this point, the 0-4 Saints could use whatever tiny boost possible.
The Saints will try not to embarrass themselves in front of their head coach.
New Orleans' start to the season sans Coach Payton has been just about as atrocious as possible, leading to cries of "Payton for Coach of the Year."
Yeah, it's been that bad.
Losses to Washington, Carolina, Kansas City and Green Bay—teams that are a combined 2-10 against all other teams—leave New Orleans as one of just two winless teams in the league, but don't be surprised if a return home against San Diego helps it finally get off the snide.
Otherwise, Sean Payton just might never come back to the Superdome.
